- The decibel (dB) scale is logarithmic, which means that a difference of 10 dB represents a tenfold increase in sound intensity. Therefore, a sound that measures 90 dB is ten times more intense than a sound that measures 80 dB. In this case, a sound that measures 90 dB is approximately twice as intense as a sound that measures 85 dB.
