- Opus is a highly efficient codec, so you can achieve transparency (indistinguishable from the original) at much lower bitrates than MP3 or AAC.
- For comparison:
- - 320 kbps MP3 and 256 kbps AAC are considered near-transparent for most listeners.
- - Opus at 128-160 kbps is typically transparent and equivalent to those formats.
- - If you want extra headroom, 192 kbps Opus is overkill and will more than match 320 kbps MP3 while being much more efficient.
- In most cases, 160 kbps Opus is a safe equivalent to 320 kbps MP3 / 256 kbps AAC without wasting extra space.
