  1. Hero Academy, Fair Games, and You!
  2.
  3. Hi there! It looks like I'm playing a multiplayer match with you right now.
  4.
  5. If I went first I would just like to point out that I took only 3 actions on this turn. Feel free to take the full five! The game is much more balanced this way. If you went first, you probably went first and took five actions. No worries, but I'd like to point out that the game is unfortunately not balanced for this (rationale below for those interested). Unfortunately Robot Entertainment has opted to leave the default starting value at 5 so as not to confuse new players, but if you are on a PC/Mac client you can change this to 3 in your settings (mobile users, just submit your first turn with 2 actions remaining and confirm that you wish to do so).
  6.
  7. This leaves a fair game for everyone! Since you probably already took five actions, is there any chance you could please only take three actions for your second turn? That should make us even steven. Thanks!
  8.
  9. Rationale:
  10. By the numbers (really old numbers, but still valid), Robot has shown that first player has about a 10% advantage with 5 actions (Second comment or so in http://wyattcheng.blogspot.com/2012/03/hero-academy-first-turn-advantage.html). That's HUGE. That means instead of winning 50% of your games, you're winning 55% as first player and 45% as second player. It sucks being second player against 5 actions and knowing that you're behind from the start. To lay down the differences here by player and then # of actions taken so far in the game:
  11.
  12. Normal:
  13. 1-5, 2-5, 1-10, 2-10, 1-15, 2-15, etc.
  14.
  15. 3AP Start:
  16. 1-3, 2-5, 1-8, 2-10, 1-13, 2-15, etc.
  17.
  18. See how the initiative is ALWAYS in the first players advantage in the first example, and see saws in the second?
  19.
  20. Thanks for reading this far. As a bonus, here's some somewhat recent data on team win rate in case you want to have a grudge match with your friend (psst get them to pick shaolin...:<):

  23.
  24. And no, if I'm playing Tribe or TF2 against you, it is not because I only pick them :p. Against random players I pick all teams about equally (except...a little less Shaolin if I'm honest with myself).
