  29. AS IF THIS MOVEMENT IS SOMEHOW UNFAMILIAR. THE BOY SHIFTS AGAIN, THIS TIME WINCING.
  30. HE IS NAKED EXCEPT FOR A RED LOIN CLOTH.
  31. THE WAY THAT IT HOOKS AROUND HIM IS INFANTILE, AN IMPRESSION COMBATTED BY HIS INTENSE THINNESS.
  32. THE LAST TIME HE LOOKED AT HIMSELF, HE WAS NOT THIS WAY. HE WONDERS WHERE HIS PADDING HAS GONE. HE PINCHES CRACKLING SKIN BETWEEN TWO LONG NAILS.

  34. THE BOY’S HEAD TILTS BACK IN A WAY THAT STRETCHES THE MUSCLES OF HIS NECK. HE WISHES THAT HIS ENTIRE BODY COULD FEEL JUST LIKE THAT.
  35. BEHIND HIM HE FEELS THE ROOTS OF THE GRASSES BEGIN TO BREAK IN PLACES.
  36. HE WONDERS WHEN IT WAS LAST NIGHT.
  37. THE SEA WHISTLES AT HIM PLAYFULLY AS THE SUN BEGINS TO SINK TO THE HORIZON.
  38. A WAVE APPROACHES FROM FAR AWAY, BUT IT LOOKS SMALL, NON THREATENING.
  39. IT CARRIES A GREAT DEAL OF FOAM AND A SMALL BLUE RAFT THAT IS SURROUNDED BY GLEAMING TIN CANS.
