--Introduction--
Firstly, although the staff of PS2iso do not recommend using this method (something about lack of compatibility and slow loading), I'd recommend it for those with Slim PS2s, or those who don't wanna risk killing their PS2's laser. Secondly, onto the "lack of compatibility". This only seems to matter for HDadvance or USB extreme, both of which are paid for products. USB Advance is free and is actually better than both paid-for alternatives. And finally- "slow loading". Sure, initial loading takes some time (about 6-10 seconds per game for me), and there is sometimes a bit of lag (usually hard to notice), but nothing that'll "break" your games. Now, onto the tutorial.

--Preparation--
Firstly, you'll need all the files in THIS- (uploading all the files you need).
Secondly, although the USB Extreme site and program tells you your drive needs to be in NTFS, USBadvance works best with a FAT 32 drive. So, format your USB memory stick or external hard-drive to FAT32. If you format it as NTFS, the program will NOT "find" your drive, and you'll feel like an idiot (found out the hard way ).
Thirdly, you'll need ANY PS1 disc. You'll find out just why later.
Fourthly, you'll need an Action Replay with ANY form of save file transfer, and a USB drive (NOT the one you're using with USBadvance) in the FAT format in order to transfer your save.

--Tutorial (step-by-step)--
Phase 1- Creating the exploit.
1. enter the "exploit utility" folder and run the "PS2 exploit utility" file.
2. If asked to update, then don't. This just wastes time, and this version works perfectly.
3. Move on to the "title.db" tab, then insert your PS1 game disc.
4. Select the CD drive your PS1 disc is in, then click "get ID from CD". You can then eject the PS1 disc from the PC.
5. Move on to the "files" tab, click on "browse for file", and choose the "USBAdvance.elf" file. Then click add.
6. Move on to region, and choose your PS2's region (NTSC for Americans, PAL for europeans and Australians).
7. Then, move on to the "Create Exploit" tab, choose the "memory card format" option, and click "create exploit". After that's saved, you can close the exploit utility.

Phase 2- Creating and transferring the save file of the exploit.
1. open the "PS2 save builder.exe" file.
2. open the file made by the exploit utility (it's in the C:\IsCentral directory).
3. save the file as an "AR MAX V3 (*.max) file on your USB drive (the USB drive used for transferring save files to the PS2).
4. Insert the USB drive into the TOP USB port on your PS2.
5. Turn on your PS2, and insert your action replay.
6. Go to the "Max Drive" interface, and choose your primary device as "Memory Card Slot 1".
7. Delete your PS2's system information, then change primary device to "Max Drive".
8. Wait for Action Replay to scan your USB stick, then select the exploit file. Choose "uncrush to memory card slot 1", and wait for it to copy.
9. When the file is copied, you can reset your PS2 and eject the Action Replay Disc.
10. Check the exploit by inserting the PS1 disc you used earlier, and waiting for it to load. If the exploit worked properly, you'll get a (very bland) main screen with the options "file Browser" and "configuration".
11. Press circle. If you've got this far, you can move on to installing games onto your USB hard drive.

Phase 3- Installing and playing games.
1. Download some PS2 Isos (I've heard there's a good site called www.ps2iso.net ).
2. Make sure you have disc mounting software such as Alcohol 120%. If you don't want to crack Alcohol 120%, then Daemon Tools is the best free alternative, if you have an adware blocker.
3. Mount your ISO(s) using your disc mounting software. I'd recommend only using ONE virtual drive, and installing the games one-by-one.
4. run the "usb extreme.exe" file.
5. choose your USB hard drive's drive letter in the right drop down menu, and the drive letter of your vitual drive in the left drop down menu. The "Media Type" menu should be obvious as uploaders usually post this. If they didn't, tough luck, you're gonna have to guess. But if the ISO is under 700 MB, chances are it's a "CD".
6. Give your game an appropriate name (for example "Ratchet And Clank 2") and press start.
7. It'll take a few minutes as it converts, but usually no longer than 10 minutes.
8. After conversion has finished, you can close the program, and disconnect your hard drive.
9. Connect your hard drive to your PS2 (Again, use the UPPER USB port, though it doesn't really matter this time round).
10. Run the exploit (IE- insert the PS1 disc used earlier into your PS2).
11. Enter the file browser, and navigate to "Memory Card 0:" then the "[gibberish]SYSTEM_DATA" folder.
12. Run the "USB advance.elf" file.
13. After the splash screen, wait while the program reads your Hard drive (this'll only take a few seconds).
14. choose your game from the list, and press X.
Congratulations, you're now running your game.
