やがて、不思議なことが起こった。

Eventually, something strange happened.

尾の先までびっしりと生えた背びれが、ぐいっとせり出し始めたのだ。

The dorsal fin, which grew all the way to the tip of its tail, began to protrude.

そしてその根元が各々青く輝き始めた。

And each of its roots began to glow blue.

その現象は、尾の先から腰へ背中へとどんどん頭部に向かって突き進んでいった。

The phenomenon progressed from the tip of the tail, to the waist, to the back, and toward the head.

今やゴジラの背中は、せり出した背びれの根元から発する青い光に包まれて光を背負ったかのようになっていた。

Godzilla’s back was now wrapped in blue light emitting from the base of its protruding dorsal fin, making it look like it was carrying light on its back.

その姿に、人々は本能的な畏怖と恐怖を同時に感じ、まるで荒ぶる神を見るかのような目で、その状況を前にただただ立ち尽くしていた。

The people felt an instinctive awe and fear at the sight, and stood still in front of the situation, as if they were seeing a raging god.

敷島がつぶやいた。

Shikishima muttered.

「これは･･････あの時と同じ」

“This… is the same as then.”

高雄が熱線に破壊された時、海中に見えた青い光は、まさにこれだったのではないか?

Could this be the blue light seen underwater when Kaohsiung was destroyed by heat rays?

そうだとすると、このあとには･････

If so, after this…

ゴジラの口周りに青い光の霧が発生し始めた。

A blue mist of light began to form around Godzilla’s mouth.

そして背びれが一斉にガシャリと音を立てて体に食い込んだ。

Then, the dorsal fins made a sound and dug into the body.

インプロージョン方式の原子爆弾を思わせるその動きの直後、ゴジラの口からは青白い鮮烈な輝きを持つ一本の光の柱が国会議事堂に向かって放たれた。

Immediately after that movement, reminiscent of an implosion-style atomic bomb, a pillar of light with a brilliant blue-white glow was shot toward the National Diet Building from Godzilla’s mouth.

一切の音が一瞬消えた。

All sound disappeared for a moment.

ゴジラの熱線のそのあまりの高温は、国会議事堂周辺のすべての物体を瞬時に蒸発させ、液体のプロセスを飛び越して、気体に変えた。

The extremely high temperature of Godzilla’s heat rays instantly vaporized all objects around the Capitol, bypassing the liquid process and turning them into gas.

膨大な体積に膨れ上がった元固体は、人知を超えた「物質の水蒸気爆発」とでも言うべき爆発を起こし、巨大な火球と化したそれは、あたりのものを無慈悲に巻き込みながらすさまじい勢いで膨張していった。

The former solid material expanded to an enormous volume and caused an explosion that could be called a “steam explosion of matter” beyond human comprehension, turning into a gigantic fireball that expanded with tremendous force while mercilessly engulfing everything around it.

その爆発プロセスが起こした爆風は、周辺の建造物を、紙細工のように破壊しながはさいら、半径六キロの範囲すべてを粉砕し尽くした。

The blast wave created by the explosion process destroyed surrounding buildings like paperwork, but also pulverized the entire area within a six kilometer radius.

その衝撃波と煙は、敷島達が立っていた服部時計店付近にもみるみる迫ってきた。すきま典子は敷島をビルの隙間に突き飛ばした。

The shock wave and smoke quickly approached the Hattori Clock Store where Shikishima and his friends were standing. Noriko Sukima pushed Shikishima into a gap between buildings.

ほとんど本能的な行動だった。

It was almost an instinctive action.

ビルの隙間に倒れ込んだ敷島を残して、典子は衝撃波の煙とそれが巻き込んだ大量の瓦礫と共に、消し飛んだ。

Leaving Shikishima collapsed in the gap between buildings, Noriko was blown away along with the smoke from the shock wave and the large amount of debris it engulfed.

やがて爆心地の真空化にともない、今度は急速に爆縮現象が始まった。破壊された破片が激しい風と共に、今度は爆心地に向かって集結していく。

Eventually, as the epicenter became vacuumed, the implosion phenomenon began rapidly. The destroyed pieces, along with the violent wind, are now gathering towards the epicenter.

その荒れくるう風の中で、敷島は体を縮こまらせて耐えた。

Shikishima endured the turbulent wind by cringing.

やがて世界は凪いだ。

Eventually, the world became calm.

よろよろと立ち上がった敷島は、ビルの隙間から這い出してきた。

Shikishima staggered to his feet and crawled out of the gap between the buildings.

風景はその様相を一変させてしまっていた。

The landscape had completely changed its appearance.

生きている者はその周辺には誰もいないようだった。

There didn’t seem to be anyone alive around.

敷島は爆風に連れ去られた典子を探して、三原橋方面を見た。

Shikishima looked towards Mihara Bridge, looking for Noriko who had been taken away by the blast.

そこにはただ無慈悲に瓦礫が層をなして折り重なっているだけだった。

There was nothing but merciless piles of rubble piled on top of each other.

「典子!典子!」

“Noriko! Noriko!”

声を震わせながら叫んでみたが、それに応えてくれる者はいないことを敷島はわかた。

Shikishima tried shouting, his voice trembling, but he realized that no one would answer him.

敷島が振り返ると、そこには熱線発射時に自らに生じたダメージを癒やすためにたたずんでいるゴジラの後ろ姿があった。

When Shikishima turned around, he saw the back of Godzilla standing there to heal the damage caused to him when he fired the heat ray.

その先、かつて国会議事堂があった場所からは巨大なキノコ雲が立ち上がっていた。

Ahead, a huge mushroom cloud was rising from the place where the National Diet Building once stood.
