DiscoDude: ---BEGIN SESSION---
DiscoDude: Session logging commenced
GM: So! <@&521089226822123530>! I understand that some of you already have some character sheets partly written up?
GM: Let's see them.
GM: <@&521089226822123530>?
GM: (For the log.)
Reality Glitch: ((Mine's already been pinned.))
Cassius: Should we repaste them into this channel?
Alice (The Other One): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UcwCm-BfzYA9gCd6h0FstqW7MIFWO9sLW-fEsz9ihU4/edit
GM: Yep.
GM:
Cassius: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ynGRj-ZgBKvaa0BoFVTwxJ_A40GOU2rTyxW9ptIWaho/edit?usp=sharing
GM:
GM: <@Reality Glitch>, <@!Kyle>, got any semblance of a sheet to post here?
Reality Glitch: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MSy_0I9TzX-ITXJoSBv2rZuNclHSHon7oWPZr8VA9dg/edit?usp=sharing
GM:
GM: <@!Kyle>, what have you got so far?
GM: <@Reality Glitch>, does your character have a name? Also, don't forget to mark down your Approaches.
GM: <@!Cassius>, seems your character is one to frequent the honey dens, eh? You just need to whip up some stunts and you're all set.
GM: <@!Alice (The Other One)>: Huh! Looks like you're all set already!'
GM: If anyone has questions or wants advice, I'm all ears.
Reality Glitch: ((Done))
Reality Glitch: <@!Alice (The Other One)>; "Red Wire, Blue Wire; Does it Matter?" feels quite underwhelming given that the approach you chose seems like it'd be the default. Maybe "+2 to Overcome with Dangerous to remove explosives she, herself, has set or built."
Alice (The Other One): no my point is, she gets to roll active defense if anyone tries to defuse her handiwork
Reality Glitch: OH!
Alice (The Other One): like normally it might be a passive defense
Reality Glitch: That could have been made more clear.
Alice (The Other One): like the enemy might need to roll against a fixed number
GM: Alright, everything seems in order for you, <@Reality Glitch>.
GM: <@!Cassius>, <@!Kyle>, do you guys need any help over there?
Cassius: Sorry, got distracted with a meat space thing
Kyle: Aaaaa, smae here
Kyle: making a copy of the sheet asap
GM: Haha, nice, <@!Cassius>.
GM: <@!Kyle>, got anything to throw up onto here?
Kyle: In a moment! got roped into watching a movie with family x.x
GM: Ah...
Kyle: IT DOES NOT MEAN I AM NOT PAYING ATTENTION
Alice (The Other One): ooh, which movie ❤
Kyle: The Truman Show
Kyle: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xMnj_AI3v5X7mDzatXaN6xLh-KKzRV5Que3g0zagBrc/edit?usp=sharing BUT HERE IT IS
Kyle: Barely Anything, but it's something
GM: Well, the opening adventure does require some involvement from everyone. 'Tis the nature of the phase trio.
GM: Still, The Truman Show is a classic.
Kyle: Don't worry, I can multitas kto s ome degree
GM: If you have a name in mind, does that mean you have a decent idea of his High Concept?
Kyle: Well, sort of the Low-Street thief with a knack for stealing the weirder-kind of loot, not matter its size, no matter how many people ran from their homes screaming while it was in their possession before being auctioned.
Kyle: "At some point someone has to break the cycle, am I wrong?"
GM: Huh. Sounds neat. So how would you word a High Concept?
Kyle: [Nightmare-Seeking Kleptomaniac], perhaps?
GM: Oof, I feel the "Nightmare-Seeking" aspect of it might be his Trouble.
Kyle: Hmm, then how about...
Kyle: [Boundless Kleptomaniac] as high concept and
[Nightmare-seeking is a Bad Habit.] as a trouble?
Reality Glitch: Make one of their stunts "Kleptoclairvoyance".
GM: Maybe! Then again, "Kleptomaniac" also* sounds like a Trouble...
Reality Glitch: How about Street Rat as a high concept?
Kyle: RG, gunny you mention that, I played through Thief Simulator lately so its an entirely factible skill.
Kyle: Also, its kind of a problem, If his job is stealing because he wants to, but it also sounds as a trouble...
GM: I guess "Boundless Kleptomaniac" can be easily invoked positively when casually stealing stuff with no prior prep.
Reality Glitch: Street-Rat and Thief-Acrobat
GM: [Boundless Kleptomaniac] and [Nightmare-Seeking is a Bad Habit] work.
Reality Glitch: Though, that probably doesn't fit as well.
GM: Know what your dump approach is gonna be? Persuasive is the only one that hasn't been dumped yet, but I won't stop you from choosing something else.
Kyle: Was thinking on giving aggressive or persuasive the dump treatment
Kyle: Probably the former?
GM: I already said my piece. The choice is yours.
GM: Anyways, you need to note down your choice, along with your High Concept and Trouble.
Kyle: I'll do so in a moment!
Kyle: May dump Persuassion in that case then!
GM: So, any ideas for stunts?
Kyle: hmm, not quite
Kyle: I mean, i thought of one to Either Resist Nightmares, or do something i enxchange for gaining nightmares
GM: Like having Armor 1 when taking Nightmares stress?
GM: Or perhaps something to do with more mundane thievery?
Reality Glitch: I still think they should have “Kleptoclairvouance. Because you’re always pinching useful little things, whenever you need something, you have it, provided it’s not something too unusual (like a map to Jimmy Hoffa’s body) or too large to fit in a pocket, belt pouch, or backpack. When you say you have something, the GM should be likely to agree.”
GM: I think that's basically just invoking his high concept positively but... for free?
Reality Glitch: That’s what all stunts are.
Kyle: a key difference would be i wouldn't have to steal something from the rubbery men when surrounded by them, ew.
Reality Glitch: Potential invokes that you pre-pay for.
GM: Good point. Maybe this one would be once per session?
Reality Glitch: <@!Kyle>; Not necessarily, we'd just be saying that it happened off-screen at a prior time.
Reality Glitch: <@!GM>; My suggestion is a renamed, but mechanically identical stunt from Fate System Toolkit, so it's been tested for power-level.
GM: Ah. <@!Kyle>, what do you think of it?
Kyle: Ah, I actually really like this
GM: Any item you wouldn't need to roll to obtain like "the key to your cell," of course. XD
Reality Glitch: Eh. That partially defeats the purpose of the stunt, though.
Reality Glitch: It's more for retroactively saying you have something, so I may be misreading the situation.
Kyle: pfft
GM: So that's one. The other being one related to matters of Watchful as it portends to Nightmares, or perhaps related to just Nightmares itself, would be the obvious choice.
Reality Glitch: Watchful determines Nightmare stress?
GM: Well, it's not a hard rule, but Watchful is generally used in situations that could lead to Nightmare stress. ("You weren't careful with where you investigated," "you looked at the wrong time," "you can't make heads or tails of the runes, other than that they're horrible, get them away!" That sort of thing.)
GM: So, <@!Kyle>: What do you think about having Armor 1 against Nightmare stress? Or are you looking for something more inspired?
Kyle: Hmm
Kyle: Can you clarify a bit about the later?
Reality Glitch: Aromor just means that every time you take stress, you subtract 1 from that amount.
GM: So if you would take 3 shifts of stress, if a stunt or extra giving Armor 1 would apply, then only 2 shifts apply.
GM: Like, maybe {Been There, Seen That}: I have Armor 1 when I would take shifts of Nightmares, due to my frequent brushes with the supernatural.
Reality Glitch: I think that would be worded better as "Due to my frequent brushes with the super natural, I have Armor against Nightmare stress."
GM: So, regardless of what wording you choose, does that sound good, <@!Kyle>?
Kyle: ....Yes
Kyle: <@!GM> Well, I like my character now
GM: Looks good!
GM: Are the <@&521089226822123530> ready to begin the Phase Trio adventure?
Cassius: Mhm
Alice (The Other One): sounds good
Alice (The Other One): i should add
Alice (The Other One): i named my character Alice but then I remembered there's already a prominent Alice in Fallen London
Alice (The Other One): i'm thinking my Alice is familiar with this other Alice and usually introduces herself as "Alice. Not that one." with no further explanation
GM: Heh.
GM: <@Reality Glitch>? <@!Kyle>?
Kyle: hah, Sure, let's do it!
Reality Glitch: It's a little late, but if you think you can finish the intro scenario in two-and-a-half hours, then I'm with you.
GM: Right then... Who are you, and why did you come to the Neath? Was it tales of untoward riches to be gained? Are there beasts that need slaying? People, perhaps? Or did London’s gloomy excentricities simply speak to you on some deeper (or perhaps more shallow) level? Take this as an opportunity to introduce your characters to each other. (The first of the Phase Trio comes after this introductory step.)
Alice (The Other One): "I came to the Neath an idealist. Then, a firebrand. Now...I describe myself as something of an artist."
GM: Delightfully vague, <@!Alice (The Other One)>.
Reality Glitch: Even after her male peers opening agreed that she is one of the top scientests of the century, Dr. Amanda Grey, Ph.D. still finds it difficult to be taken seriously when presenting new or fringe ideas. Most recently she has found herself in the possession of a portion of biomass the originated from 'Neath. After studying it, she presented a hypothesis regarding an answer as to the true nature of the strange creatures said to inhabit it. Ridiculed for believing that such an "insignificant sample size" could prompt anything that profound, Dr. Grey has publicly announce an expedition to travel 'Neath and return with enough evidence to prove or disprove her hypothesis. With what basically amounted to a "go away and stop bothering us" grant, she sets foot in the despondent city that was once the United Kingdom's Capital.
GM: <@!Cassius>? <@!Kyle>?
Cassius: On paper, he lost a poker game and has quite the debt to repay. However, he had been meaning to journey to this city and indulge in its uniqueness for the longest while.
GM: <@!Kyle>?
Kyle: Hmm, the voices called for him, the best way to get into the city was to do what was the best in the toolset of mine: "Wealth redistribution" except it had a few kinks, but one can always work around those.
GM: Why did you end up in New Newgate Prison? Did you get caught with something you shouldn’t have had? Act out when you shouldn’t have? Did you get recognized? Were you framed? Or perhaps you arranged yourself to be transferred there yourself from whatever hole you were kept in before? Fallen London is, after all, an excellent place to disappear after a good prison break…
Alice (The Other One): "I wanted to see if I could blow a hole in the side of the Bazaar. ...I'll try increasing the payload by 20% next time."
GM: (Well, the implication was that you got nabbed on the way down for something, but that works.)
Alice (The Other One): to be clear Alice has been in Fallen London for some time
Alice (The Other One): that was my concept for her
GM: (Ah... I did say that I wanted your characters to be from the surface... or was that just in a PM with someone else?)
Alice (The Other One): no, i don't remember that part at all
GM: (Oh... Whoops.)
Alice (The Other One): you said "we meet in New Newgate, like in the game"
Alice (The Other One): but not
Alice (The Other One): "we have to be fresh from the Surface, like in the game"
Reality Glitch: Dr. Grey is furious with herself forgetting her sample confiscated. She brought it with her so that her peers couldn't claim it for themselves and take credit for the discovers she had made thus far. Knowing them, they'd be more than willing to accept her research as long as it wasn't a woman's discovery.
GM: (Sorry about that, <@!Alice (The Other One)>. I guess this works, though.)
Cassius: "The game I played was a rigged one. I wasn't even supposed to get a good chunk of the winnings, but I suppose it's hard to convince furious men that you were cheating 'only a little bit', hahaha."
GM: <@!Kyle>?
GM: ... <@!Kyle>?
Kyle: On second thought, that scream might have come the theif's head, and not from inside, the sirens actually came for said thief, what a lapse in focus
Kyle: Sorry for taking so long, am a bit handling multiple things
GM: Whatever the case, the view from your cells is magnificent: Fallen London, far below. You’ve all come so far, and you're so close! No prison can hold you now. Brought together by circumstance and proximity, this is where things really begin; breaking out of New Newgate together. (I forget; does the first of the Phase Trio have to have the same wording for all players?)
Reality Glitch: ((While that is an option, that is for the player's themselves to decide. Each Phase Trio aspect is worded based on what the character as an individual got out of the expierience. I highly suggest just running the session to completion and then asking for the aspects that'll be derived from it.))
GM: (Ah, okay. I was thinking of running a scene for each pair. Is it okay to determine the first of the Phase Trio after the other two?)
GM: (What do you guys think? Do we have enough now to determine our aspects for the First Adventure, or do we need to play through first?)
GM: (<@&521089226822123530>?)
Alice (The Other One): it's your call; you're the GM
GM: Hm... I'm thinking yeah, all the <@&521089226822123530> should put down an aspect relating to being in or breaking out of prison together (since the nitty gritty details will mostly portend to the Guest Star aspects). Possibly injecting some flavor related to their motives (if you can fit it).
Reality Glitch: ((The aspect needs to come after the prison break, because the course of events will directly influence the aspect.))
GM: (Fair point. I'm also tempted to call it here for tonight; the hard curfew hour approaches, and cutting it off right before official gameplay begins might be good. <@&521089226822123530> in agreement? Yea? Nay?)
Kyle: Hmm, Yeah it makes sense, sorry again for stalling for a while, family is fun sometimes.
Reality Glitch: ((Y))
GM: <@!Cassius>? <@!Alice (The Other One)>?
Alice (The Other One): sure
GM: <@!Cassius>?
GM: (Eh, I'll call it.)
GM: !end
