Tom- Roll

Then I heard the click of the retractable blade and Tom ran straight towards the creature, his staff pointing at its broad chest. It spun very quickly and grabbed the end of his staff and dragged it from Tom’s grasp. As he staggered forward, losing his balance, the beast snapped the staff into two pieces and cast them away. Then it struck down towards Tom with the long sharp talons of its right hand.

Tom rolled away and just avoided those deadly talons and, my heart in my mouth at his narrow escape, I ran towards the creature. The closer I could get to it, the more effective my magic would be.
