- Kalos-GM: Last time on Space nerds. Our heroes found lots of spooky skellingtons, graffitti, and books in an abandoned city.
- Ely: _is now only willing to exit the ship in full vacuum-gear._
- Koshy: _Koshy is spooked by skellingtons. He's keeping his cool, tho._
- Grendel: _thinks the skellingtons are cool. He wants to take a few home as halloween decorations... samples. He means samples._
- Ely: "Good to know these guys have skeletons?"
- Koshy: "So... What now... Are we going to scavange the area for... Stuff?"
- Eryn: "That is our job."
- Koshy: "Our as in... Including me...?"
- Kalos-GM: It's been one day since then- the translator guy now having a treasure trove of stuff to go through
- Eryn: "No Koshy, your job is to be adorable, and possibly serve as emergency rations."
- Koshy: "Awww- Wait, what?"
- Kalos-GM: the dictionary no doubt, is probably the best single thing to have been gotten
- Koshy: "Oh, you mean *serve you* the emergency rations, got it."
- Ely: "We may need you, to investigate the interiors of crypts and graves."
- Koshy: "Please, don't."
- Ely: "Well, I can't fit."
- Eryn: "C'mon Koshy. Earn your keep. I'll get you something nice to eat the next time we make for port."
- Koshy: "O-ok!"
- Koshy: "Uh... Where do I begin?"
- Kalos-GM: besides the mass grabs that the park was, there were skeletons found in a variety of other places. often in bed or the like
- Kalos-GM: there were few skeltons simply lying in the street for example- though stray bones are abound.
- Kalos-GM: certainly picked off by some animal- like another one of those big birds Nai tranq'd back on the sea platform
- Grendel: _is gonna scrounge for something interesting?_
- Ely: (I missed a session, right? Is the cause of this mass death still unknown or did we figure a lot of that out?)
- Kalos-GM: which every so often, one of which can be seen
- Kalos-GM: Grendel: anything in particular you're looking for?
- Grendel: Clues— maybe if this was an engineered plauge, I can find something used to spread it?
- Eryn: "So. Crazy thought. We know anything about the wildlife 'round these parts? And whether or not they might be hostile? I'd hate to get mauled by some weird...space bear."
- Kalos-GM: you have epidemiology skill-
- Kalos-GM: There's a few likely sources for the spreading of the disease- One of them is one of those birds- or a variety of other smaller flying creatures. It could also have spread through their food- like fish or farms
- Kalos-GM: though at this point its been 50 years, you're not sure you'll tell a farm apart from the rest of the fields if you flew over it.
- Kalos-GM: but you'll need to capture (or fish) an animal if you want to test those.
- Grendel: I was sorta thinking of something along the lines of a threatening briefcase that might belch out toxins. This makes more sense.
- Kalos-GM: You could probably borrow Nai's needle gun, if you've any talent for firearms.
- Koshy: Well
- Eryn: Eryn actually has a wrist needler dosed with sleep poison.
- Koshy: if an animal was suspected to be carrying the virus
- Koshy: Then, surely, those would have gone into a bone pile as well
- Kalos-GM: Eryn you could go elmer fudding around with that too probably
- Kalos-GM: what's the range/acc on it?
- Grendel: "Eryn, catch me a wabbit!"
- Eryn: 25 yards 1 acc
- Eryn: _looks to Grendel skeptically. "Right. Do you even know how to work a needler?"_
- Kalos-GM: do any of you have tracking or a similar skill? If not, you could just roll perception fo find some animal that ~~doesn't afraid of anything~~ won't scare off within 25 meters.
- Grendel: _shrugs. "I know laser guns. How different can they be?"_
- Ely: (I have, uh... tactics and stealth? :B )
- Eryn: "Mechanically, speaking. Very."
- Eryn: /roll 3d6 14 perception
- Kalos-GM: (!roll )
- Kalos-GM: (tactings and stealth help!)
- Kalos-GM: (go ahead and roll that to aid)
- Eryn: !roll 3d6 14 perception
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 3d6 for 7 [3d6 = 2, 4, 1]; 14 for 14 [] perception
- Kalos-GM: (one of them)
- Kalos-GM: After some period of time of walking about city streets and such and the outskirts- most animals don't really scare off as they sort of start making their way away once you're around- but many times you get shooting oportunities.
- Kalos-GM: you got 4 animal options:
- Kalos-GM: big bird (the type Nai Nabbed)
- smaller bird (the size of a raven- blueish green in color)
- Some kind of groundhog thing, orange, to match the grass.
- a ayylien deer... or pony... or something. Big 4 legger of roughly 250 pounds.
- Kalos-GM: you could also shoot them all but how many needles you got?
- Grendel: "I wanna cut open that little bird thing, Eryn. I wanna cut it open and see what's inside."
- Eryn: Lots! 2 magazine each hold 25 rounds a piece.
- Eryn: Feeling rather cocky, Eryn Sets her sights on the big game.
- Kalos-GM: give me a roll at flat skill
- Eryn: "Tell you what. I'll grab the big game and the bird both."
- Eryn: "Kinda wonder what that thing tastes like."
- Eryn: For both?
- Kalos-GM: Flat for dear
- Kalos-GM: -4 for little bird
- Eryn: !groll 3d6 16
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> cannot roll a skill value of 3!
- Ely: (just groll 16)
- Kalos-GM: (its reading 3d6 as the skill level)
- Eryn: !groll 16
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 12 (degree 4; success)
- Kalos-GM: whats the HT penalty?
- Eryn: !groll 12
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 11 (degree 1; success)
- Eryn: HT-6
- Kalos-GM: and the damage on the needler?
- Kalos-GM: roll it, twice
- Eryn: !roll 1d6-2
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 1d6-2 for 0 [1d6 = 2]
- Eryn: !roll 1d6-2
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 1d6-2 for 0 [1d6 = 2]
- Kalos-GM: the little bird drops like a mook from MGS shot in the head. instantly.
- Kalos-GM: the big game runs off
- Kalos-GM: and doesn't show signs of slowing
- Koshy: "Ooh! Good Shot Eryn! You are the best!"
- Kalos-GM: upon further inspection
- Kalos-GM: the shot seems to have bounced off
- Kalos-GM: and landed on the grassy overgrown pavement
- Koshy: (Wait, what about the thick skin modifier?)
- Kalos-GM: (1 fur dr)
- Kalos-GM: go ahead and roll perception to find another one
- Eryn: _sighs. "I wanted alien big game..."_
- Kalos-GM: (if you go looking)
- Eryn: "Alright Koshy. Time to see if they spliced any bloodhound genes into your DNA."
- Eryn: "Get to tracking."
- Eryn: _crosses her arms and looks to koshy expectantly._
- Kalos-GM: Koshy: the answer is no. (you lack discriminatory smell)
- Kalos-GM: ( <@!Koshy> ? )
- Koshy: (Um...)
- Koshy: "Um... I don't think they did..."
- Koshy: "I mean... It would have been cool if they did! Yes!"
- Koshy: "But... The ground smells like... You know... Ground..."
- Grendel: _notes that down_
- Eryn: _frowns. "Ugh. Some Hunting dog you are."_
- Koshy: "Sorry!"
- Eryn: She turns to grendel, So. We have your bird. What now? Wanna take it back to the ship to examine, or do we explore more?"
- Grendel: "Been feeling a bit under the weather as it is. I say we head back, toast with antibiotics, and get examining!"
- Eryn: "Alright. Lets get on with it then. I'm feeling a touch thirsty, myself."
- Koshy: "Would you like me to prepare a drink, then?"
- Kalos-GM: (anyone want to do anything before its back to the ship?)
- Eryn: "This is a question that doesn't require an answer. Koshy."
- Ely: (Carefully wash spacesuit.)
- Kalos-GM: If you have spacesuits on you could have the airlock douse you in flames.
- Kalos-GM: :3
- Eryn: I'm sure Koshy would enjoy that
- Koshy: (Should I roll bartender now, or later?)
- Kalos-GM: go ahead and roll now.
- Ely: (I love this airlock setting)
- Koshy: Also, please, fire-sterilization, only if it EXCLUDES Koshy
- Koshy: !groll 12 (bartender)
- DiscoDude: <@Koshy> rolled 12 (degree 0; success)
- Koshy: (An OK drink)
- Kalos-GM: quality drinks
- Kalos-GM: Koshy needs no tips. only appreciation and a assurance he wont be eaten today.
- Koshy: (Yes, preferably the last one)
- Eryn: _only provides one of those things._
- Kalos-GM: Grendel- surgury > electronics operation > diagnosis
- Grendel: !groll 17 (surgery)
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 10 (degree 7; success)
- Grendel: !groll 16 (electronics)
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 4 (degree 12; critical success!)
- Koshy: (Pfff)
- Kalos-GM: nicela.
- Ely: (Nice :D )
- Kalos-GM: one more
- Grendel: !groll 18 (diagnosis)
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 16 (degree 2; success)
- Ely: (You suddenly have a few new medical tools and you're not sure where they came from. Great operations.)
- Grendel: !groll 16 (electronics, again. Comparing my SPACEFLU with the bird)
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 12 (degree 4; success)
- Kalos-GM: Cuting open the bird you get some insight to its biology a little- its heavier than an earth bird of the same size would be. but more importantly to the situation at hand-
- Kalos-GM: it has thousands of microbes in it, much like any regular life you would expect that isn't gengineered.
- Kalos-GM: and there's a commonality of 5 strains within it and you.
- Grendel: "Guys, this might be vaguely significant"
- Kalos-GM: 5 different bacteria-equivalents. Not a single virus here- perhaps they never developed on this planet.
- Grendel: "Emphasis on the 'might', guys"
- Ely: (Five strains that are present in the birds and *us*?)
- Kalos-GM: and *Grendel*
- Kalos-GM: you'll need to give blood to check if its effecting you.
- Ely: (Uh oh)
- Kalos-GM: And by your excellent work with the wonderful lab gear you have- you can definitively catch what's going on
- Eryn: _wanders into the lab, drink in prosthetic hand. "Sup?"_
- Kalos-GM: In the bird these 5 strains are not really doing much
- Kalos-GM: one of them in you is very aggresively fucking your shit up, or trying to.
- Kalos-GM: attacking the red blood cells and the like in your blood sample
- Kalos-GM: also releasing toxins. can't forget those.
- Grendel: "Good news is that I figured out what killed everyone."
- Eryn: "And the bad news is...?"
- Grendel: "Transfers to humans, too. Really, really wishing I'd worn my spacesuit out there."
- Eryn: "...Are you contagious?"
- Ely: "Do *we* have the spaceplague?"
- Eryn: _takes a step back and cover her drink."_
- Kalos-GM: All in all, you should be fine- your body has tons of crazy bullshit vaccines and stuff in it. all that failing, could just blast that shit with some antibiotics- including tailoring a cocktail to it- Your pharmecutical skill will lend to it.
- Kalos-GM: but its easy to see how this kind of thing could just wreck a low tech species
- Grendel: "Get the spacerat. We're gonna mix a shitload of vitamin C into whatever the strongest stuff we have is, and get blitzed while we get well."
- Kalos-GM: to see if its engineered, you'll need some genetics skill
- Kalos-GM: (default off of biology)
- Kalos-GM: (or have <@!Nai> phone in a couple skill rolls? heh)
- Eryn: "Don't call Koshy a spacerat! He's more like....a space squirrel."
- Eryn: "He is very twitchy, you see."
- Grendel: (Gonna call in Nai for this one)
- Koshy: (Speaking of which, should we roll for klepto?)
- Kalos-GM: I'll roll off her sheet-)
- Ely: (Thanks, spacebirdlady)
- Kalos-GM: (oh yea go ahead. lets see what you rob)
- Koshy: !groll 9 (klepto)
- DiscoDude: <@Koshy> rolled 12 (degree -3; failure)
- Koshy: (Okay, that's the first failure... What do Koshy re-arranges...)
- Kalos-GM: !roll 1d6
- DiscoDude: <@Kalos-GM> rolled 1d6 for 5 [1d6 = 5]
- Kalos-GM: You steal One of Nai's space college flag things.
- Koshy: _Koshy hides it into his stash._
- Kalos-GM: Rolling Nai's Genetics-
- Kalos-GM: !roll 3d6
- DiscoDude: <@Kalos-GM> rolled 3d6 for 9 [3d6 = 1, 6, 2]
- Kalos-GM: Nai's conclusion: it's doens't look manufactured- or at least, not by any advanced (>tl7) method... which basically means its possible to have happened naturally.
- Kalos-GM: either it evolved this way, or two strains of bacteria mixed their material up and recombinated into somthing else, which does happen naturally.
- Grendel: Mystery solved, gang. I hope.
- Ely: "At least their disease isn't going to murder us."
- Koshy: (It is trying to, tho)
- Koshy: (side note, maybe there is survivors... Somewhere?)
- Kalos-GM: There could be. Still got 3 radio sources to look into- or searching the city more... or looking elsewhere
- Kalos-GM: you could try to attract the attention of them somehow, rather than looking.
- Kalos-GM: large portions of their language is now readable, by the way.
- Ely: (Oh dang that'd be cool, Alien Rescue)
- Kalos-GM: (at least vaguely)
- Koshy: ( "1-2-3... 1-2-3... 1-2-3..." )
- Ely: (Should we go find the computers at that military-ish platform in the sea? It seems kinda likely to have important information)
- Koshy: (hey, maybe they engineered this disease in the "old way")
- Koshy: (Like, via active selection)
- Kalos-GM: could be possible. but that's not something that you can tell by looking at a sample
- Grendel: "I want to look for survivors. Would make our job exploring a lot easier and, c'mon, it would be awesome."
- Koshy: "Well... If I were a survivor... I would try calling for help..."
- Eryn: "I dunno. How long ago did this plague hit these people? They might not know a thing."
- Grendel: "I say we look for any shortwave broadcasts and check for areas that are less likely to have the disease— deserts and shit."
- Eryn: "Alright. But I just wanna say right now- not too sure I'm jazzed about actively searching for survivors."
- Ely: "Shortwave broadcasts? We still have a few signals we haven't investigated, right?"
- Grendel: "They seem to be repeating the same message— I'm more interested in anything that could be used for communication between small settlements."
- Kalos-GM: There weren't any radio signals that weren't looping.
- Kalos-GM: (well, sorta-looping)
- Kalos-GM: (like the one that runs twice a day and then cuts)
- Ely: (Have we checked that one out yet?)
- Kalos-GM: Nope.
- Kalos-GM: you've only ever checked out one of them
- Kalos-GM: you flew to this city cause there's a radio tower on top of the mountain
- Kalos-GM: and the city grabbed your interest immediately rather than actually checking out the radio complex.
- Grendel: "Guys, maybe we should check out the complex."
- Ely: "Good idea, must be something going on there."
- Kalos-GM: Grendel gets up, goes to the cockpit to fly this thing out of the mass grave?
- Grendel: _does that_
- Grendel: !groll 13 (pilot)
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 13 (degree 0; success)
- Kalos-GM: Goes without a hitch. maybe crushing a few Mr (and Mrs.) Skellingtons on the initial movement off the ground
- Kalos-GM: 10 minutes later, you're at the radio complex- hovering above it. Its got two wind turbines that are still running, and another one that's no longer spinning for whatever reason (wear and tear due to age)
- Kalos-GM: it's got some power supply stuff and the like- as well as its radio mast being of a completely different design. there's a few buildings down there
- Kalos-GM: small ones- only a few rooms. a small parking lot that's mostly overgrown
- Kalos-GM: but the black and grey of it can still be seen
- Kalos-GM: roll again to land this thing, if you want to do so.
- Grendel: "Guys, do we go down?"
- Ely: "Think so. Not sure there's gonna be anything more than automated bits down there, though."
- Grendel: !groll 13
- DiscoDude: <@Grendel> rolled 13 (degree 0; success)
- Eryn: "Damnit ely. Don't say stuff like that."
- Eryn: "Now we're going to find some weird alien tentacle demon. down there."
- Koshy: "Can I eat it, if we find it?"
- Kalos-GM: You land it down on the parking lot- a convenient place for a landing
- Kalos-GM: And can suit up and step out again
- Ely: _is still in his suit. Don't want to spaceplague._
- Koshy: _Koshy needs no suit_
- Koshy: _Koshy also has no suit_
- Eryn: _brings her suit. as well_
- Grendel: _goes suited this time_
- Kalos-GM: Outside, there's a view to the city on one side of the mountain
- Kalos-GM: on the other is a massive mountain range stretching for what seems like dozens of miles
- Kalos-GM: in the horizon, you can see more mountains, barely visible through blued haze.
- Kalos-GM: There are a few buildings of interest here: a electric power center, connected by long wires to towers and ultimately to the city- lots of DANGER DANGER, HI VOLTAGEEE
- Kalos-GM: The radio tower itself,
- Kalos-GM: the various turbine towers,
- Kalos-GM: and three non-descript buildings beside the radio mast.
- Kalos-GM: all overgrown, windows broken
- Ely: (Nondescript buildings obviously mean we need to check those out first)
- Kalos-GM: made of wood and concrete and a little bit of steel.
- Kalos-GM: At a glance you can read the sign on one of the buildings. In the alien tongue, but now intelligible.
- Kalos-GM: "Nima telecommunications"
- Kalos-GM: the first word is just some sounds- half guessed at. probably a name
- Kalos-GM: (or untranslated)
- Kalos-GM: the other one is fully translated.
- Kalos-GM: The other two buildings are labeled "storage" and the largest one, with a good view against the mountains. "Resort."
- Koshy: (Of course, when the world is ending, no better place to hide than a resort)
- Grendel: "Restort sounds cool. Beach episode!"
- Kalos-GM: The front door's mostly glass- wooden paneling surrounding the recangular glass center, which has shattered in its place.
- Eryn: "Not sure I wanna vacation in a post apocalyptic wasteland."
- Kalos-GM: jagged edges of glass inward- but your suits won't have any trouble with it.
- Koshy: _Koshy remains attached to Eryn's spacesuit_
- Kalos-GM: do you step inside? Door's unlocked. worth a mention.
- Ely: (Heck yeah)
- Grendel: _heads in, hoisting his spacegun._
- Kalos-GM: There's a sign inside- lobby- This is basically a collection of cabin rooms. counter at the front, some general goods were here- most of which were raided, but it appears to be mostly winter themed.
- Kalos-GM: skis, thick jackets, snow boards..
- Ely: (The surrounding area matches, right? Or is this a bizarre unfitting thing?)
- Kalos-GM: there are labels for candy that would have been somewhere. all gone.
- Kalos-GM: It kinda matches. you could see the mountainside being nice to ski down if it were snow covered.
- Kalos-GM: no lift though? which seems strange.
- Ely: (Oh, hmm)
- Ely: "This doesn't really look much like a telecommunications center..."
- Eryn: "This place doesn't look to have any survivors eithers, I think."
- Koshy: "Didn't we we enter the building with 'Resort' written on it?"
- Kalos-GM: this is the 'resort'. the telecommunications is the next two buildings.
- Ely: "Oh, they're not part of the same complex? Who puts a resort next to a communications tower?"
- Kalos-GM: you can find a couple of skeletons in different rooms- most of them in bed. Food is missing from mini fridges.
- Kalos-GM: It seems like someone's been here, and looted the place. Either in the final hours or afterwards.
- Koshy: (Looted the place... and holed up in the communitations thing?)
- Eryn: "My guess is scavengers picked the place clean...which supports my theory that whomever lives on this planet now probably doesn't know squat about what happened before."
- Kalos-GM: One of them has a journal beside them that wasn't taken-
- Kalos-GM: it seems like poetry. Or mad ravings. hard to tell, you know?
- Kalos-GM: something something creeping end something something snow something something peace something something flowers.
- Ely: "Must be the effects of the illness."
- Grendel: "Guys, I think this is the source of the disease."
- Grendel: "Marie, from Persona 4 Golden."
- Koshy: "Whaaaaaaaaaaat?"
- Eryn: "...you're going to have to explain that one."
- Grendel: "See, there's this martian video game, and a shitty character they added to the remake who writes emo poetry... and I'll just escort myself out."
- Kalos-GM: references shakespeare and bad remakes of it
- Kalos-GM: grendel that is, essentially.
- Koshy: (What if he were to reference actual shakespeare, what would that be like?)
- Eryn: "....Right. Moving on!"
- Kalos-GM: actually referencing shakespeare
- Kalos-GM: anyway
- Kalos-GM: Where to now? Not a soul seems to be here. but still plenty of plces to look.
- Ely: (The actual communication buildings? I want to see what the tower's connected to.)
- Eryn: "Can we go now? This place is creepy. Especially so."
- Kalos-GM: Anyone object to getting out of the winter mountainside resort building full of skeletons?
- Koshy: Not Koshy
- Kalos-GM: also, <@!Pampa> is here. because of course they are.
- Ely: (Cactus Pilot!)
- Ely: (Welcome back :B )
- Pampa: (Thank you...)
- Eryn: (nope)
- Ely: (Yeah, let's go)
- Kalos-GM: The radio tower mast has some rather rubber bound wired connecting to the building labeled telecommunications-
- Kalos-GM: this building is empty. Not even skeletons are in it. There's some large computer equipment that's both similar and not to what you saw at the militariy installations
- Kalos-GM: and there's also a talk show booth thingy and audio mixing station.
- Kalos-GM: there's some evidence that animals came in here over the years, but left.
- Kalos-GM: some of the stuff's still running.
- Kalos-GM: In particular, a tape.
- Kalos-GM: some rather archaic storage medium that's hard to comprehend
- Kalos-GM: 'how did they get audio on some tape? where are the ones and zeroes? holy shit they have to rewind it.'
- Kalos-GM: etc;
- Kalos-GM: rather heavy duty stuff actually- its as if it was made to run for an exceeindly long time without tearing
- Kalos-GM: there's a few speakers in here, playing whats on it
- Kalos-GM: how wonderfully ominous and nonsensical- it first gives a weather report, talking about rain and then light snow being expected before a heat wave will get rid of it.
- Kalos-GM: this lasts about a minute or so, a quick cut.
- Kalos-GM: and then "Three. Seven. Two. Two. Three. Nine..."
- Kalos-GM: it drones on numbers.
- Ely: "...I don't like it."
- Kalos-GM: and that goes on for 6 minutes.
- Kalos-GM: before it all stops, the tape beginning to physically rewind in front of your eyes.
- Eryn: Does the recording include a date for when this happened?
- Eryn: (....And do we know anything of these people's calender?)
- Kalos-GM: It does give a date- the translation is there to recognize one during the weather report at the start of the message.
- Kalos-GM: it starts on the second day of a 4th month- and there's a 'years since the king' that's 642
- Kalos-GM: but this doesn't really have a bearing to your earth days and years.
- Kalos-GM: (currently, some time in june, 2452)
- Kalos-GM: you can compare it to newspapers and stuff that you guys have shots of-
- Kalos-GM: This recording was put up about two months before the last newspapers you guys spotted
- Ely: (Thaat's scary)
- Eryn: "It's been atleast a nice amount of time since this plague first hit then."
- Eryn: "Oi, Grendel. You have anything you want to do here? I'm strongly in favor of leaving to check out other places."
- Kalos-GM: or at least, the weather report is dated to then
- Grendel: "Agreed."
- Kalos-GM: anywhere you'd want to go, Eryn?
- Eryn: To another signal
- Kalos-GM: Which? two remain. One which shares the military signal, inland, and the one off another coast, that goes on intermittently?
- Eryn: Hrm.
- Eryn: Lets go with the Military signal
- Kalos-GM: Anyone want to do anything here before Pampa makes some piloting rolls?
- Ely: (Can I roll search to look for any notes or messages or anything that might've been left around here? :B )
- Ely: (My skill isn't great but I might as well try)
- Grendel: (Can I help? I'm good at scrounging)
- Ely: (My search is only 9 so you should probably do it lol)
- Kalos-GM: Whats your search or scrounging at, grendel?
- Grendel: 14
- Kalos-GM: There's a faded piece of paper under a table... after some further inspect it turns out to be a list of sponsors and messages.
- Kalos-GM: such as an ice cream place, a roofing company....
- Kalos-GM: Probably not significant. but it stuck out as a readable piece of paper.
- Grendel: "Guys, who wants ice cream?"
- Ely: "Wow, these people were... not very interesting."
- Kalos-GM: <@!Pampa> get the crew out of here. Aerospace.
- Pampa: !groll 14
- DiscoDude: <@Pampa> rolled 14 (degree 0; success)
- Pampa: Theeere we go
- Kalos-GM: You lift off- this flight will be a bit longer, 4 hours
- Kalos-GM: Anyone doing anything or skip to the area?
- Ely: _downloads some post-apocalypse books. Those things like "how to survive a zombie apocalypse" that look like they're supposed to be genuine reference material. Uh oh._
- Kalos-GM: you hve difficulty picking out the fiction from the intended non-fiction
- Kalos-GM: other than that-
- Kalos-GM: This installation is... A dam. A massive dam at the end of a canyon system made out of concrete, its got holes in parts and its spillsways are letting water through
- Kalos-GM: And there's what looks like an airstrip and aircraft hangers on the plateau beside it
- Kalos-GM: there's little vegatation up there- its almost bare rock
- Kalos-GM: so the places are better preserved than a lot of others.
- Eryn: "By the way did we ever establish how this plague was spread? Maybe it was the water? Might be worth a look here."
- Grendel: "Works for me."
- Eryn: "Lets make some money, boys."
- Kalos-GM: Pampa: where do you land the thing?
- Kalos-GM: there a few anti aircraft gun lookin' emplacements beside the airstrip, as well
- Kalos-GM: two of them are oddly missing
- Kalos-GM: all unmanned
- Kalos-GM: (and non-electronic)
- Kalos-GM: (as in, the dug out positions for them are there, but the guns themself are not there)
- Pampa: Hmmm, nothing wrong with the airstrip... Let's land there
- Kalos-GM: roll me piloting
- Pampa: !groll 15
- DiscoDude: <@Pampa> rolled 10 (degree 5; success)
- Kalos-GM: You land without issue- From this lower angle you can see the hangars are all door-less, and still have the planes in them
- Ely: (Woah, what're the planes like?)
- Kalos-GM: Large, 2-4 engined things with propellers, except for one of them which has a rather out of place mega sleek jet in it.
- Kalos-GM: that looks like its going fast on the ground sitting still
- Ely: _is gonna go check that one out as soon as they're landed._
- Kalos-GM: You get out airlock works fine- And Ely starts heading over to the hangars. There's a few buildings here- a air traffic control place, a barracks, etc;
- Kalos-GM: This place seems almost untouched by a lot of the things most of the world has gone through. it doesn't look like its decayed but that's probably purely due to the high altitude and low vegetation.
- Kalos-GM: No skeleton piles here, either, at least on the outside so far
- Kalos-GM: Ely: as you get closer, this thing is Big. bigger than it originally looked.
- Kalos-GM: Long, flat, two jets right beside the middle cockpit- a little rusty of course and probably in not real condition to fly but what do you know about tl7 fighter planes?
- Eryn: _wanders out after ely after suiting up. She'll be on the look out for anything skellingtons with uniforms with officer rankings and such_
- Grendel: _tromps out and takes the rear, letting his spacegun hum_
- Kalos-GM: 35 meters long. There's some tool boxes set aside underneath it- but they're closed.
- Kalos-GM: No skellington to be found.
- Kalos-GM: There's also no guns on it- or missile mountings or anything like that.
- Kalos-GM: Its either a bomber, or its a spy plane. hard to tell with how many large panels are on the bottom
- Kalos-GM: any one of them could be a bomb bay or just access to internals.
- Ely: _doesn't know much about old planes. Knows it looks cool. Gets into the tools to try and pop those panels off._
- Kalos-GM: do you have mechanic HPSC?
- Kalos-GM: or aerospace that works
- Ely: (Aerospace at 13)
- Kalos-GM: Roll that at -4
- Ely: !groll 9 (uh oh)
- DiscoDude: <@Ely> rolled 14 (degree -5; failure)
- Ely: (whoops)
- Kalos-GM: you cannot for the life of you figure out which of these tools opens anything
- Kalos-GM: there are no nice convenient buttons either
- Kalos-GM: or implant commands-
- Ely: (Oh wait, would I get a bonus from my aerospace workshop thing? Or is it just totally incompatible technology? :B )
- Kalos-GM: you failed by enough you just don't know, heh
- Ely: (Well dang.)
- Kalos-GM: you thought it would work one way, your expectations were wrong
- Kalos-GM: (what do you mean muskets load from the barrel?)
- Kalos-GM: (that's ridiculous)
- Ely: _would try the universal key of "laser torch" next, but, that'd be bad if there were bombs in there._
- Kalos-GM: speaking of bombs.
- Kalos-GM: there are a few, across the ways in another hanger
- Kalos-GM: away from the rest of the planes
- Kalos-GM: and by a few I mean about 2 dozen, of different sizes
- Eryn: Any way to discern their payloads?
- Ely: _goes to check the bombs out, maybe they obviously fit into the panel shapes or something._
- Kalos-GM: Some have labels for units you have no conception of
- Kalos-GM: One of them that is just light enough for ely to be able to lift is labeled '1000'
- Kalos-GM: there's a pair of bombs 10 times that size.
- Kalos-GM: with '10000'
- Kalos-GM: none are specially marked 'nuclear' or anything.
- Ely: (So are we like, at the top of the cliff with the dam built in?)
- Kalos-GM: yep.
- Eryn: "So uh. I was thinking, Maybe we grab one of these. For reasons."
- Kalos-GM: there's a few cranes here
- Ely: "We should throw one over, and see what happens when it hits the ground."
- Kalos-GM: small hydraulic ones, for hauling these.
- Eryn: (Oh many of these bombs are there?)
- Eryn: "Thats a helluva way of finding out what a payload is."
- Eryn: "Can't you just...Do some weird math equation to figure that out?"
- Grendel: "Could take it home and put it on a scale?"
- Ely: "I don't know what's inside. I could open it, if you want to see."
- Kalos-GM: now that you're in this other hanger
- Kalos-GM: there's a lot more than was initially visible-
- Kalos-GM: 120 different bombs of various sizes.
- Eryn: "I don't want to see. I just want the bomb- Just in case....we need to bomb something."
- Eryn: "Look. In my experience. It is better to have a wmd and not need it than need it and not have it."
- Eryn: "Maybe the next time some shady folks demand to know the contents of our cargo bay, we tell them we have a nuke on board."
- Ely: "What makes you think it's a nuke?"
- Ely: "Or, are you just hoping they won't ask too many questions?"
- Kalos-GM: the lightest bomb in inventory is labeled 200.
- Kalos-GM: and... can be lifted by everyone present except koshy I think, with some effort.
- Eryn: "If we don't know what it is, they certainly won't know what the hell it is."
- Eryn: "We could tell them it is full of Anti matter and sunshine and they'd believe us."
- Ely: "I don't think anyone would believe us."
- Ely: "If a small ship in space threatened you with a nuke, would you think they had one?"
- Eryn: "If a small ship in space claimed to have an explosive payload on board, full stop I'd reconsider trying to hijack it."
- Ely: _looks down at the room full of bombs. Rattly bug-sigh. "If you're going to take bombs on the ship, please be careful with them."_
- Kalos-GM: gonna take the 200 bomb onto the ship and weigh it?
- Eryn: Yep!
- Kalos-GM: do you have an explosive handling skill?
- Ely: (Uh oh)
- Kalos-GM: if not roll me IQ.
- Ely: (And here's where we lose the ship)
- Eryn: !groll
- DiscoDude: Roll error: please specify skill value.
- Eryn: !groll 14
- DiscoDude: <@Eryn> rolled 13 (degree 1; success)
- Kalos-GM: Nothing goes wrong. It's pretty damn heavy, but it gets on the ship with you and in the airlock
- Kalos-GM: after its on the scale...
- Kalos-GM: '200' is 60 lbs.
- Eryn: _radios back to Ely with the value._
- Ely: "This is theoretically heavy enough to be a nuclear bomb."
- Eryn: "Told ya!"
- Ely: "Is there any radiation, though?"
- Grendel: "Miiiight it be a chemical weapon?"
- Kalos-GM: no radiation detected.
- Kalos-GM: there are places to uncrew the bomb... but you know that some weapons arm by screwing something in some direction
- Eryn: "More importantly we can probably figure out the weight of the other bombs now."
- Kalos-GM: (the '1000' is 300 lbs. and thus '10000' is 3000 lbs )
- Kalos-GM: most common bomb is '2000'
- Ely: "Should I throw one down the drop to see if it contains chemicals?"
- Eryn: "I'd rather you wait until we explore the rest of the area before you start detonating bombs."
- Eryn: "You're starting to sound like me."
- Eryn: "...I'm not sure if I approve."
- Ely: "They're small. And probably wouldn't detonate after this long, and un-armed."
- Grendel: "Actually, I take back the chemical thing. Meant to ask if they might be full of nasty bacterial stuff."
- Eryn: "*Probably* He says."
- Eryn: "Anyways. If you think it's safe. Knock yourself out. I'll be over here, in my sealed suit and hopefully functioning air filters and air tanks."
- Eryn: _makes a mental note to make Koshy do a gear check when we have down time next._
- Eryn: _wanders off towards the dam._
- Ely: _wastes no time in chucking one of the smallest bombs down the cliffside! This is how discoveries are made._
- Kalos-GM: do you prepare it in any way or just chuck?
- Ely: (Just chuck.)
- Kalos-GM: there's a spinning fin thingy in the back, and the nose is screwable
- Kalos-GM: you chuck
- Kalos-GM: it makes a marvelous demonstration of newtons laws
- Kalos-GM: you hear a very soft *thud*
- Kalos-GM: couple thousand feet down
- Kalos-GM: moments go by, which turn into tens of seconds
- Kalos-GM: nothing happened.
- Ely: "Does anybody have binoculars?"
- Eryn: (If you have a helmet it should have some type of magnifiers or whatever on it)
- Ely: (Ohh right)
- Ely: (I wanna look down to see if it's intact or cracked open)
- Kalos-GM: Light infantry helm has no electronics.
- Kalos-GM: (oh, Ill check biosuit)
- Ely: (Whoops. Does a flatcam have zoom? :B )
- Kalos-GM: Yes! 4x
- Kalos-GM: you zoom on down-
- Kalos-GM: It looks dented in at the nose
- Kalos-GM: but still in one piece... but maybe you can't tell if its cracked from this far
- Kalos-GM: a laser gun should be able to make it go boom
- Ely: (pff I was about to say)
- Ely: "I'm not sure it's safe to approach. It may be un-detonated. I'm going to shoot it until something happens."
- Ely: (Is it reasonably easy to shoot at an unmoving target despite the range? :B )
- Eryn: "Famous lads words," Eryn adds over the coms.
- Kalos-GM: Yep.)
- Kalos-GM: what gun you using?
- Ely: (Heavy laser pistol.)
- Kalos-GM: roll shooting skill
- Ely: !groll 16
- DiscoDude: <@Ely> rolled 13 (degree 3; success)
- Kalos-GM: roll damage
- Ely: (Wait, that'd actually be 15, but still success)
- Kalos-GM: you made it on the dot
- Ely: !roll 4d6
- DiscoDude: <@Ely> rolled 4d6 for 12 [4d6 = 2, 6, 3, 1]
- Ely: (armor divisor 2)
- Kalos-GM: You see it quietly explode- the trees and all such around it blasted to splinters, a crater formed on the ground with a large dust cloud
- Kalos-GM: 2 seconds later the shockwave reaches you.
- Ely: "I have good news and bad news. It's not nuclear."
- Eryn: "Is the bad news that you now have 10 seconds to live?"
- Ely: "No, that was both."
- Kalos-GM: ===== > To be continued
- Kalos-GM: !end
