- Ak'kili kept running, varying her path. She clicked once. Xave ran full speed at her prey, growling. Ak'kili threw her smart disc. As her prey aimed at Xave, the smart disc embedded itself in his throat, the force of the impact throwing him onto his back.
- Xave quieted and slowed down. The hound wisely kept
- his distance. Ak'kili didn't give her prey a chance to regroup. She fired her plasmacaster at his chest and torso until it was charred beyond recognition.
- Ak'kili climbed up to the top of the ridge and scanned the area. The only heat signature she saw was Xave's. The other two had hidden themselves well. She switched to a topographic view of the area. There was a small extinct volcano nearby. There was a good chance that there were some caves or old lava tubes in the vicinity. The terrain
- provided a lot of good defensible places to make a last stand. If she started the next hunt now, she'd have to do it without Xave's help. That was fine. She'd hunted plenty of prey without the hound's help.-pg.169 chpt.7
