- Hurricane Milton formed rapidly due to a combination of exceptionally warm sea surface temperatures and favorable atmospheric conditions. These factors created an environment conducive to the storm's quick intensification. The hurricane developed from a long-tracked tropical disturbance that originated in the western Caribbean and moved into the Gulf of Mexico. Once there, it encountered little wind shear and ample moisture, allowing it to strengthen rapidly into a Category 5 hurricane.
