Before she could ask what a rich, privileged boy like him could use a mahogany knife for, he took out a scrap of leather from his bag and carefully cut it into a pattern he seemed to know by heart. When he had finished he held it out to her and beamed, explaining, "A belt I've been wanting to make, but nobody has an adequate knife."
