- In 500 words, write your experience during your work immersion proper.
- In order to better prepare for life beyond high school, students must join the senior high school's work immersion program which is a stepping stone for the students to be engaged and involved in the workplace. It is also aid in the development of life or career skills and the preparation of students to make decisions regarding adulthood and employment. Experience gives us the tests first and lessons later. In the first week of my Immersion, I felt so nervous to make mistakes because I was a newbie and I also felt afraid mostly when I was having a conversation with people at the barangay hall. Also, I need to prove that I am firm, flexible, and versatile in any kind of circumstances. The Barangay Captain of Poblacion (Hon. Ma. Theresa V. Carillo) oriented us on the rules and regulations and on the job that she will assign to us for our 2 weeks of immersion. Then she also asked us certain things about our future career jobs and instructed us to repack the corn seeds for the farmers. Additionally, she and other staff instructed us to list, sort, and identify the old and new members of senior citizens. The barangay secretary (Mrs. Celerina C. Lamosa) taught us topics and lessons about our work, when and how we do it, and she gave us guidelines and ideas about it. Later on, she assigned us to identify the unvaccinated and vaccinated people who attend the immunization of infants/babies. Moreover, the barangay captain asked us to list the total household population in which each of us was assigned to different sitios or puroks to write the necessary information like age, date of birth, and more. These experiences are enjoyable because these feelings I felt this week are the feelings I may attain in the near future. This week is very exhausting, we barely had time to stop and think since we were constantly engaged in activities. On my second week of immersion, the barangay secretary and the barangay captain told us that this week is an uneventful week in which the barangay doesn't have any programs and tasks. They even told us that we can do any assignments or any schoolwork this week starting today. Later on, we plan to work on our portfolio which each of us is assigned to different parts of the portfolio. We also ask for some help from the workers at the hall regarding some of the necessary information that is needed in our portfolio. Furthermore, we began the portfolio assigned by the work immersion adviser (Mrs. Ma. Miraflor L. Gonzales). Also, we started transcribing and typing all information about the portfolio gathered. This week is not that tough, it gives us fresh ideas and the opportunity to speak our minds freely and without fear to improve something. Aside from work experience, this work immersion allows the trainee or the students to get acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having different positions. It also gives us the chance to immerse ourselves in our chosen field and learn the skills necessary for the industry we are interested in. That’s why we are taking this seriously as it can be a powerful tool in preparing for the next chapter of life as a professional. It can possibly be a source of insight into the real world of adults.
- What have you learned from your work immersion proper?
- Students who participate in a work immersion program are able to improve their abilities and have a better understanding of what they need to improve on. The work immersion is also seen as a stepping stone for the students to practice and develop themselves. I learned a lot during our work immersion that gave me valuable learnings that I probably wouldn't have learned just by studying. It gave me a taste of what the outside world really has to offer. My two weeks experience at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Poblacion, Borbon, Cebu helped me realize the importance of the work with the barangay officials. I learned a lot from their teachings, from identifying the total list of vaccinated people, listing the total household population, etc. First, I learned how to handle people and I truly believe that this experience has helped me to develop my communication skills. I can speak clearly, thoughtfully and without feeling nervous. Sometimes the most important developments are the small ones and getting used to talking to strangers is going to help me massively in the future, especially at things like interviews, meetings and more. Also, patience when it comes to the tasks that they’re going to give you, as well as the times that you’re just waiting for the next task that will be given to you, even if you already got bored waiting for nothing. Additionally, As we grow older, we will inevitably experience bigger challenges and make mistakes. Not everything you do will be successful. But don’t stress out about these failures. With no mistakes, there would be no opportunity to learn. In my short time as a Work Immersion student, I'm thankful that I got to experience all of this. I enjoyed the real-life experiences, although I had a hard time doing some of it. It helped me understand what is going on in the workplace and learn how to work with other people. It gave me a bigger picture of what I want to be in the future and the things I want to improve about myself. I will try to apply more of the learnings I gained from the/ work immersion as I go through with my life.
