Sorry, but really masc trans dudes with beards and stuff posting selfies of themselves like "Do you really want ME in a women's bathroom?" are NOT HELPING. This isn't really about y'all. This isn't really about any of us AFAB trans folks, even though it hurts us, too. These bills were created because dangerous people hate trans women. And by posting these hella masc selfies, you're not fucking helping because there are plenty of """"non-passing"""" trans women and other AMAB trans folks who need to use women's bathrooms and you're just reinforcing the idea that "people who look like men" (read that bit with ALL of the ironic quotation marks) don't belong in women's bathrooms.

Also, this honestly is mostly a message to all the Good Cis Liberals™ on my friends list who are reposting this shit because actually most of my trans dude friends are way fucking cool and with it, so, do better, cissies.

I think the best argument for why "passing" trans guys posting bathroom selfies is a bad idea is a simple question: could trans women do it? The answer is of course a resounding No.

If they did they'd be subjected to widespread ridicule and appearance fuckery via cis transmisogyny. A few have tried, but it doesn't get any kind of the thousands of hits the trans guys do. This goes for any trans activism: if you see cafab trans people doing it a lot and camab trans people none or almost none, there's a big red flag right there. It wouldn't take 5 minutes before some cafab trans would go after a camab trans person they thought was the "wrong representative" for that plan. And cis allies would invariably take it upon themselves to police that too. It relies on transmisogyny to function--"Manly" looking people shouldn't be in the bathroom, especially if they have *gasp* facial hair.

Destroying transmisogyny will necessarily include triggering it in cis minds, but doing so without quality follow up just reinforces it in my opinion. Otherwise you're just generating even more fear and hate for the cis to latch on to and reinforcing dangerous passing and binary standards. Because transmisogyny is the motivating factor/political fuel. Fighting it by increasing it marginally and hurting individuals wouldn't help.
