  1. DiscoDude: **---BEGIN SESSION---**
  2. DiscoDude: **Session logging commenced**
  3. Reality Glitch: <@!Theo Paracelsus> <@!Wilbur Steinbeck> <@!Jydeir> You've all gathered here because of rumors of a "Candle Jack" terrorizing the locals, and have come to investigate it proper. Where is "here", what your immediate surroundings, and what your currently doing while you wait for a lead?
  4. Theo Paracelsus: (oh no)
  5. Theo Paracelsus: (not this fill in the blanks shit again)
  6. Jydeir: (I have something if you want me to start)
  7. Reality Glitch: ((I don't like taking control away from people.))
  8. Wilbur Steinbeck: (I mean, I’m okay with it this time. I actually had a plan already?)
  9. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Is Jydeir in dragon form...?)
  10. Theo Paracelsus: (i really hope you folks do)
  11. Theo Paracelsus: ('cause i'm drawing a blank)
  12. Theo Paracelsus: (and our GM apparently has no intent of actually *providing* anything for us to use ^_^; )
  13. Jydeir: I'd assume an order came down from on high, or not so high, either way Jydeir got an order to deal with it, in turn Jydeir probably asked Wilbur if he was willing to help.
  14. Reality Glitch: ((Hey! Give me a chase. I didn't want to stall the game.))
  15. Wilbur Steinbeck: (I ask again; is he in dragon form, or a more recognizable human form?)
  16. Theo Paracelsus: (you didn't tell us to "give you a chase")
  17. Jydeir: (Human, remember, there is a masqurade in effect.)
  18. Theo Paracelsus: (you told us we're waiting for a lead)
  19. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Okay, so Wilbur would recognize him.)
  20. Reality Glitch: ((*chance))
  21. Jydeir: (Honestly I kinda assumed Wilbur and Jydeir have more or less been in contact since Wilbur got his Inugami.)
  22. Reality Glitch: ((I also don't know where <@!Jack Thurible> has decided Jack to be from.))
  23. Jack Thurible: (Eh, I guess either America, or England)
  24. Wilbur Steinbeck: Wilbur’s apartment is a bit cluttered, but not exactly dirty in the bacterial sense - at least the living room wasn’t - just a lot of books and papers scattered around. Very musty.
  25. Reality Glitch: ***Cluttered Apartment***
  26. Wilbur Steinbeck: “Long time no see, Jeff. Did that dragon thing ever work out for you?” He’s already pulling out note pad and pen. “Also... who’s your friend?”
  27. Theo Paracelsus: "...seriously? You need to work on your *feng shui* here, *darling.*"
  28. Wilbur Steinbeck: “... Okay.” What.
  29. Theo Paracelsus: _picks up a piece of scattered paper and gingerly drops it._
  30. Wilbur Steinbeck: {“What a *douchebag*. That is a guy, right?”} (“Quiet you.”)
  31. Wilbur Steinbeck: (^Dialogue in parentheses is happening in Wilbur’s head.)
  32. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Wilbur Steinbeck> If you're going to do that, please use something other than single parentheses to mark OoC text.))
  33. Theo Paracelsus: ((this is ooc))
  34. Theo Paracelsus: ("This is thinking.")
  35. Jydeir: "... This here, alleged expert in furniture, was tacked to me by my boss. Suffice it to say it was successful. But that not the reason for the house visit."
  36. Theo Paracelsus: _grins and flashes a victory sign._
  37. Theo Paracelsus: "Really, though, *furniture expert?* You're selling me *short* here!"
  38. Jydeir: *Would repeat alleged with emphasis*
  39. Theo Paracelsus: ((XD))
  40. Reality Glitch: ((I am honestly confused as to the characterization <@!Theo Paracelsus> is going for here with Theo.))
  41. Theo Paracelsus: ((?))
  42. Wilbur Steinbeck: “That’s good. You’ll have to tell me all about it later, of course.” The bookish human puts the pen back down, rolls up the sleeves of his button-down, and looks back across the table at his guests. What would one be looking at here?
  43. Theo Paracelsus: ((there we go))
  44. Theo Paracelsus: ((got a little worried there when it took him two minutes to formulate a response))
  45. Reality Glitch: ((What kind of person is Theo's behavior supposed to be playing into?))
  46. Theo Paracelsus: _is a thin man of medium height in an almost blinding white suit, well-tailored, with short platinum blonde hair streaked with purple._
  47. Jack Thurible: (Does it matter? it's a character with a personality )
  48. Theo Paracelsus: ((he's multifaceted :P))
  49. Reality Glitch: ((-_- Moving on.))
  50. Theo Paracelsus: ((i don't even get why this is a question))
  51. Theo Paracelsus: ((he's had all of three lines so far))
  52. Theo Paracelsus: ((i find it funny i'm the one the "don't be idle" comment was directed at))
  53. Theo Paracelsus: ((but then i'm reacting to the other two))
  54. Theo Paracelsus: ((and they've been basically told to come up with everything for this scene))
  55. Reality Glitch: ((And now I feel awful.))
  56. Theo Paracelsus: ((you know full well this is not how we roll))
  57. Theo Paracelsus: ((you've had ample warning))
  58. Theo Paracelsus: ((*ample*))
  59. Jydeir: Wearing his usual pitch black lawyer suit, red tie for today it seems. "To be right to the point, some rumor, people have been calling Candle Jack, has been proving alarmingly real. So they need someone to do the grunt work of making sure they keep the noise down."
  60. Jydeir: "Nobody wants the"myths" proven real."
  61. Theo Paracelsus: ((we can do improv, but we need the GM to set the scene))
  62. Theo Paracelsus: ((otherwise we're just flailing))
  63. Theo Paracelsus: "I keep telling you, Jy, I know *exactly* who we need to talk to! We just need to *find* him, that's all!"
  64. Reality Glitch: ((I clearly needed to plan a little more this time.))
  65. Wilbur Steinbeck: “I see. And you came to me. I can see why you’d think I’d be interested, and you would be right; I might want to get an interview, though, if that’s alright.”
  66. Theo Paracelsus: "Oh, I'm *always* ready for an *interview.*"
  67. Jydeir: "Do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't take priority over actually getting stuff done... As for that, thats why we are here."
  68. Jydeir: ((Sorry, misread)
  69. Theo Paracelsus: "But seriously, there's this...*vigilante.* A mysteeeeerious figure who prowls the darkness, righting wrongs, protecting the weak..." He looks thoughtful for a moment. "Or at least that's the impression I got when he saved my Jeanne. I'm afraid I didn't really ask for his occupation. But if anyone would know about an urban legend come to life, it would be him."
  70. Theo Paracelsus: ((yes Theo thinks Jack might *know* the guy; he doesn't suspect he ***is*** the guy XD))
  71. Jack Thurible: ( heh, wow )
  72. Wilbur Steinbeck: “Sounds like the only lead, then, unless there’s a particular area that’s being hit.”
  73. Jydeir: "Maybe he is a vigilante, but the blood doesn't make it look like who ever is responible is all that good at heart."
  74. Theo Paracelsus: "I can promise you this: if there's a monster out there devouring innocent people, the man I'm talking about has *certainly* tangled with him."
  75. Wilbur Steinbeck: “*Is* there a particular area of incident, or is it citywide?”
  76. Theo Paracelsus: ((ooh boy.))
  77. Theo Paracelsus: ((GM, do we have an answer for this, or are we expected to make something up here?))
  78. Theo Paracelsus: ((or is it up to Jack?))
  79. Jack Thurible: (I would say it's just in the radius of where Jack actually lives)
  80. Jydeir: "There is an area of activity, if you have a map of the city I'll show you."
  81. Jydeir: ((any paticular details about the region, or will we be making it up as we go))"
  82. Jydeir: ((like is it indutrial, the slums or out right old abandon buildings and stuff that dominate the area?))
  83. Wilbur Steinbeck: “I have a map of the San Fran Cisco city limits, the surrounding county, and the sewer systems beneath it. You only need the first one?” Wilbur gets up to retrieve some.
  84. Jack Thurible: (I would say it's in a decrepit area of town, lableled as dangerous by city council or something)
  85. Jack Thurible: (Probably made up something about a toxic spill or something to keep sane people out)
  86. Theo Paracelsus: "While we're at it."
  87. Theo Paracelsus: _grabs the San Francisco map and draws a big "X" on one particular location._
  88. Theo Paracelsus: "That's where I met my friend. We should obviously head there first and search around for him."
  89. Theo Paracelsus: ((Jydeir, obvs the X is in the middle of the territory *you* were about to outline XD))
  90. Jydeir: Would , with his hand circle an area of the map toward a region that is inland."
  91. Theo Paracelsus: ((uh, that doesn't describe the area we just discussed ***at all***))
  92. Theo Paracelsus: ((we said it's in the city))
  93. Theo Paracelsus: ((a run-down part of down))
  94. Reality Glitch: ((There can be parts of a city *mostly* surrounded by forest.))
  95. Jydeir: ((I was thinking partly burnt out and abbandon do to the fire hazard or something.
  96. Theo Paracelsus: ((but ***San Francisco?***))
  97. Theo Paracelsus: ((that's nowhere near the wildfires))
  98. Jydeir: ((I'm make this shit up as I go))
  99. Theo Paracelsus: ((and the closest thing to a "forest" is the park))
  100. Theo Paracelsus: ((jeeez, i've only even been to San Fran like 2-3 times in my life and I know this ^_^; ))
  101. Theo Paracelsus: ((this is kinda the problem with using real-world locations))
  102. Theo Paracelsus: ((*and then asking folks to make up details based on those locations*))
  103. Reality Glitch: ((Then let's ignore any previous mention of San Francisco and operate under a "name of town never explicitly state" policy.))
  104. Jydeir: ((Call is San Fran, not related at all to any real named cities, it is a city of ADVENTURE))
  105. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Nondescript west-coast city. Gotta make Yokai plausible. Or maybe they’re everywhere like everything else is.)
  106. Jack Thurible: (I uh...said it was a decrepit place closed off to the public)
  107. Theo Paracelsus: ((like I said 😛 ))
  108. Theo Paracelsus: ((no one apparently paid you any attention but me))
  109. Jydeir: ((Why would the public be allowed in a region that is prone to being ON FIRE, I would try to keep civies out most of the time...))
  110. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Which can totally be in Nondescript West Coast City.)
  111. Reality Glitch: ((Yokai are everywhere; they're a concept that isn't unique to Japan.))
  112. Theo Paracelsus: ((it's not on fire!))
  113. Theo Paracelsus: ((it's not literally on fire!))
  114. Theo Paracelsus: ((we are talking about a rash of monster attacks chalked up to a creature of urban legend!))
  115. Theo Paracelsus: ((that's what this business is all about!))
  116. Jack Thurible: (I said...toxic dump...)
  117. Theo Paracelsus: ((the whole point in this is that these attacks are actually the work of our friend Jack here))
  118. Wilbur Steinbeck: (I’m only suggesting where the general city is. It can have whatever the plot demands.)
  119. Theo Paracelsus: ((and we end up resolving this misunderstanding and he joins the party))
  120. Theo Paracelsus: ((***i thought?!?***))
  121. Theo Paracelsus: ((am i sincerely on a different page from everyone else here?))
  122. Wilbur Steinbeck: (No, I was on the same page. I never said there wasn’t a toxic dump.)
  123. Jack Thurible: (...I did...)
  124. Reality Glitch: ((That's the plan <@!Theo Paracelsus>. I have yet to see evidence to the contrary.))
  125. Wilbur Steinbeck: (*I never said there *wasn’t*)
  126. Jack Thurible: (LETS MOVE ON, IN CHARACTER STUFF RIGHT NOW SO I CAN APPEAR)
  127. Jydeir: (( Alright it is a run down part of town does that work, if so, lets gooooooooooooooo)
  128. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Yeah.)
  129. Theo Paracelsus: "What an *amazing* coincidence! The attacks are all *right in the vicinity* of where Jeanne encountered our friend! Fortune shines upon us!"
  130. Jydeir: "Well, lets start with the last known death then, go from there."
  131. Wilbur Steinbeck: “Sounds like a plan, I guess. Either of you need anything before we go?”
  132. Theo Paracelsus: _is already out the door._
  133. Theo Paracelsus: "What's wrong, ladies? Time's a-wasting!"
  134. Jydeir: "If I needed something, I would have gotten it already. Just focus on bringing what you'll need."
  135. Jydeir: Would be wait on Wilbur before heading out.
  136. Wilbur Steinbeck: Wilbur quickly gathers up and dons his pack, a few scrolls and papers falling onto the floor in the process. He heads out after the others.
  137. Theo Paracelsus: ((five minutes of silence.))
  138. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((I mean, this sort of transition is where the GM should step in.))
  139. Jydeir: ((Most awkward car ride ever))
  140. Reality Glitch: After about an hour's drive, you're within a block of "X" Theo marked. The buildings are all ***Old and Decrepit***, you're parked on an ***Abandoned Street***, and a ***Sense of Unease*** permeates the area.
  141. Reality Glitch: ((I had to step away for a moment; my apologies.))
  142. Wilbur Steinbeck: Wilbur is perturbed by none of it, of course. He’s as chipper as ever (or at least cynically acting like it) as he asks: “So where is this friend of yours...?”
  143. Jydeir: Steps out of the car, presumably with Myra behind him at this point, not far behind him. "Close enough, yes? Last thing I want is for what ever has caused this to do the samething thing on my car."
  144. Theo Paracelsus: _steps out of the car. "Oh, I'm *certain* I know how to call him. Here it goes."_
  145. Theo Paracelsus: He clears his throat.
  146. Theo Paracelsus: ***"OH, HELP, HELP! SOMEBODY SAVE ME!"***
  147. Theo Paracelsus: He calls out in the most ridiculous falsetto voice imaginable.
  148. Jydeir: Just look at Theo like *this is just the higher ups hazing me isn't it*
  149. Wilbur Steinbeck: {“... Is he real?”} (“You know, I’m honestly not sure.”)
  150. Jack Thurible: There is a rustling of debris and then a voice, "...Can you not yell...?"
  151. Reality Glitch: You all hear a blood curdling scream from down the nearest alley way.
  152. Theo Paracelsus: "I knew it! I *knew* this was a foolproof way to call a vigilante!"
  153. Jack Thurible: ( 🤔 )
  154. Reality Glitch: ((Well, that's awkward.))
  155. Jydeir: Ignores Jack, chases scream
  156. Theo Paracelsus: _turns his attention towards the scream._
  157. Theo Paracelsus: "Oh my, *that* sounded like the real thing!"
  158. Wilbur Steinbeck: Wilbur just looks at this shadowy character, almost wondering aloud what he’s going to do.
  159. Jack Thurible: Jack looks towards the scream and then at the people, "...What the fuck are people doing on my property..."
  160. Jack Thurible: And then reluctantly follows the scream.
  161. Theo Paracelsus: "Come on, Mr. Vigilante! We've got a murder to prevent!"
  162. Jack Thurible: "Don't call me that, I am not a vigilante." He steps out from the shadows looking dullfully at them.
  163. Jydeir: Is Jydeir the only one chasing down what my be the scream from someone getting attacked by... something?
  164. Jack Thurible: (Jack is following)
  165. Jack Thurible: (Just, not as fast)
  166. Theo Paracelsus: (so's Theo obvs)
  167. Reality Glitch: Rounding the corner, you see a young woman on her rump with an impossibly large man looming over her. The man's upper body is obscured by shadows.
  168. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Not like Jack? You mean normal shadows being cast from like buildings and stuff?))
  169. Reality Glitch: ((Yes.))
  170. Theo Paracelsus: ((really what's going to be hilarious is that all things considered Jack is the guy we're after; this guy is just some asshole in the wrong place at the wrong time))
  171. Jydeir: Doesn't really feel like asking questions first, Jydeir rushes in, trying to get they guy of his feet, think martial arts.
  172. Theo Paracelsus: ((i think this actually worked out about as well as could possibly be expected!))
  173. Reality Glitch: ((Why does that not make me feel worried?))
  174. Jack Thurible: Jack sighs as he finally comes around to see the man and the woman. "Man...You're fucked up." He says before his arm untwirls into an unsightly mass of tendrils and takes aim at the man.
  175. Jack Thurible: (Imma go ahead and roll shoot)
  176. Jydeir: ((should I make a roll then?))
  177. Reality Glitch: ((You need to describe your action first, <@!Jydeir>.))
  178. Wilbur Steinbeck: {“Guess you don’t need my help, then?”} (“They look like they can handle it. I’ll get back to you on it.”) {“Not even stepping in for the lady?”} (“Shokken, no. Especially not for her. I know what you’re thinking.”)
  179. Jydeir: ((RG, Roll, yes? Also how?))
  180. Wilbur Steinbeck: {“C’mon...”} (“No. Besides, she’s rather plain. Are your tastes slipping?”)
  181. Jack Thurible: (I'm going to roll shoot)
  182. Reality Glitch: ((Initiative Order is Wilbur, Jydeir, Jack, Theo, Brute, Damsel.))
  183. Jack Thurible: (I think we should roll athletics for that or something.)
  184. Reality Glitch: ((This is based on your Notice Skills.))
  185. Theo Paracelsus: ((so say I wanted to like...draw a quick little alchemic glyph to create a simple effect, like a flash of light. Would I roll Lore or Essence?))
  186. Reality Glitch: ((I'll let you use Crafts to Create an Advantage.))
  187. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Wow. I guess I can do nothing before anyone else has the chance. XD))
  188. Theo Paracelsus: ((I'm thinking Theo's alchemy is kinda like the Fullmetal variety only he doesn't 'transmute'; he can just create glyphs and circles and whatnot and get the effect instantly))
  189. Theo Paracelsus: ((Wilbur, not even gonna try a Create Advantage?))
  190. Reality Glitch: ((It really depends on the effect, but for a "blinding light" effect, I'll let you roll crafts.))
  191. Reality Glitch: ((Yeah, maybe use that Lore of your to know something about this situation.))
  192. Jydeir: Rolling to create an advantage, tripping the brute to the ground.
  193. Jack Thurible: (It's Wilburs turn)
  194. Jack Thurible: (still)
  195. Jydeir: (Wilbur made it pretty clear he wants to hang back.)
  196. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((How would I roll lore to Create Advantage. What is there to figure out? Is he a myth of some kind?))
  197. Reality Glitch: ((You can also try Notice, to get a better look at them.))
  198. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Remember that if you don’t tell the players what exactly their characters aren’t seeing, we don’t know whether to look for something. This is FATE, after all.))
  199. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((So what would I be rolling to notice/have lore on?))
  200. Reality Glitch: ((This is Fate; you get to decide what it is you find.))
  201. Reality Glitch: ((Or at least, I'd tell you if it's already pre-determined.))
  202. Jack Thurible: (For fucks sake, just roll or something)
  203. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Here we go again...))
  204. Reality Glitch: ((Fine. He's got two aspects; Notice will uncover one of them.))
  205. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Fine, I’ll make something up. Rolling Lore as he turns toward the light.))
  206. Wilbur Steinbeck: !roll 4df+4 (Lore)
  207. DiscoDude: <@Wilbur Steinbeck> rolled 4df+4 for 5 [4df = [ ][ ][ ][+]] (Lore)
  208. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Forgot; this is versus what?)
  209. Jydeir: ((Urg... Your being to hands off, as much shit as Jack and Theo given you previously, you can't just stand back. There are some fairly obvious positions. Jydeir at the front, Jack following behind, Theo probably following him, and probably at the slowest pace, Wilbur. We rounded a cornor so not everyone may see them yet.))
  210. Reality Glitch: ((Fair (+2). Which is a success with style.))
  211. Reality Glitch: ((Would you like to discover one of the hidden aspects or create a new one?))
  212. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Discovering.)
  213. Wilbur Steinbeck: (And did you create these, or is it still mine to make up? No preference; just wondering.)
  214. Reality Glitch: The man turns to you, not enough to see their face, but enough that you can see that the hand is inverted from the human norm. Due to your extensive research, you know you're dealing with a ***Rakshasa***.
  215. Theo Paracelsus: "Ooh! A rare find, this! There's your Candle Jack, ladies!"
  216. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Theo Paracelsus> Theo hasn't noticed this yet.))
  217. Theo Paracelsus: ((whoop))
  218. Wilbur Steinbeck: “Uh, guys. Rakshasa. Those like to eat flesh, I’m pretty sure. Watch out for claws and fangs. Probably has some swords, too.”
  219. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((So if I’m discovering an Aspect, does that get a free invoke?))
  220. Reality Glitch: ((Yes.))
  221. Wilbur Steinbeck: So the group was dealing with a *[Rakshasa Leg-Breaker]*. Great.
  222. Reality Glitch: ((Yup.))
  223. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Note that Wilbur doesn’t necessarily know the Leg-Breaker part; it just sounds like a better preexisting Aspect.))
  224. Reality Glitch: The Rakshasa responds, "This doesn't concern you folk."
  225. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Wilbur Steinbeck> Thank you.))
  226. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jydeir> You're up.))
  227. Jydeir: Doesn't bother responding at first, trying to trip them.
  228. Reality Glitch: ((That's your Physique versus their Good (+3) Physique.))
  229. Jydeir: !roll 4df+3 (Physique)
  230. DiscoDude: <@Jydeir> rolled 4df+3 for 3 [4df = [ ][-][ ][+]] (Physique)
  231. Reality Glitch: ((Name the boost you've generated.))
  232. Jydeir: **Fallen prone**
  233. Reality Glitch: ((That'd make a better full aspect had you succeeded, maybe something less severe.))
  234. Jydeir: Alright then... **Close Quarters** ?
  235. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Like [Stumbling][*]. (Ffffff))
  236. Reality Glitch: The rakshasa gives an "ooph" as a literal dragon slams into him. "Now you've done !@#$ed up."
  237. Jydeir: ((Yeah, thats a better one))
  238. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jack Thurible>'s turn.))
  239. Jack Thurible: !f 4 Shoot
  240. DiscoDude: <@Jack Thurible> rolled 4dF+4 for 3 [4dF = [+][ ][-][-]]
  241. Jack Thurible: (Gonna go ahead and reroll with an invoke)
  242. Jack Thurible: (Gonna use the "Candle Jack" Aspect)
  243. Reality Glitch: ((Versus Fair (+2) Athletic marks off his 1-stress box.))
  244. Jack Thurible: !f 4 Reroll
  245. DiscoDude: <@Jack Thurible> rolled 4dF+4 for 3 [4dF = [+][ ][-][-]]
  246. Jack Thurible: (...Imma go ahead and reroll again...)
  247. Reality Glitch: ((You get a success.))
  248. Jydeir: ((You're gonna waste all your Fate points...))
  249. Reality Glitch: ((That too.))
  250. Jack Thurible: (It refreshes after the sesh)
  251. Jack Thurible: !f 4 second reroll
  252. DiscoDude: <@Jack Thurible> rolled 4dF+4 for 3 [4dF = [ ][-][ ][ ]]
  253. Jack Thurible: (...OKAY)
  254. Reality Glitch: ((You also need to pick a second aspect to invoke.))
  255. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Also, why. You could have just +2’d. Also, *what are you invoking*.)
  256. Theo Paracelsus: ((^))
  257. Jack Thurible: (Experimental Weapon)
  258. Wilbur Steinbeck: (You can’t invoke the same aspect twice in one roll.)
  259. Reality Glitch: ((Ommy fixed that.))
  260. Jack Thurible: (....EXPERIMENTAL WEAPON AND CANDLE JACK)
  261. Reality Glitch: ((I was talking to DC.))
  262. Wilbur Steinbeck: (I never saw that. Also, rerolling on anything higher than a -2 result is generally a bad idea.)
  263. Reality Glitch: ((Unless Jack wants to say something, it's on to <@!Theo Paracelsus>.))
  264. Jack Thurible: (...It's literally the same number...three times...In a row)
  265. Reality Glitch: ((Illustrating DC's point.))
  266. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Theo Paracelsus>?))
  267. Theo Paracelsus: "Hmm...a fellow like you ought to pay attention to his diet. For starters, I recommend...*eating light.*"
  268. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Even if you got a broke even result, you still would have been better off pumping a +2 into it.)
  269. Jack Thurible: (there is no point of talking about it anymore)
  270. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Alright.)
  271. Jydeir: ((Maybe we should move stuff about being meta and optimised to the OOC channel))
  272. Theo Paracelsus: _doodles a sigil on the wall with a dry erase marker. He snaps his fingers to complete the ritual - a wholly unnecessary step, but if you can't do things with style, why bother doing them at all?_
  273. Theo Paracelsus: !f 4 (Crafts)
  274. DiscoDude: <@Theo Paracelsus> rolled 4dF+4 for 4 [4dF = [-][+][ ][ ]]
  275. Reality Glitch: ((Which of the four actions is that?))
  276. Theo Paracelsus: ((Create Advantage; we already discussed?))
  277. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Also, what happened in-universe with Jack’s attack?)
  278. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeah, who was supposed to flavor that?))
  279. Reality Glitch: ((Jack))
  280. Reality Glitch: ((Wait.))
  281. Reality Glitch: ((Both of us.))
  282. Theo Paracelsus: ((so what happens next))
  283. Reality Glitch: ((I assume the aspect is ***Blinding Light***.))
  284. Reality Glitch: "AAAAHHHH!!!!" Both Rakshasa and the woman cry out as they cover their eyes. Jack isn't feeling so hot either.
  285. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Is that a compel?)
  286. Theo Paracelsus: "You think that's impressive? Wait till you see my *next* trick!"
  287. Reality Glitch: ((Only is <@!Jack Thurible> wants it to be one.))
  288. Reality Glitch: "Not if I have anything to say about it." The Rakshasa attempts to shove Jydeir into Theo.
  289. Create and Advantage with Physique.
  290. Reality Glitch: !f 3
  291. DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4dF+3 for 3 [4dF = [ ][+][-][ ]]
  292. Theo Paracelsus: (can I roll Athletics to dodge?)
  293. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jydeir> Defend with Physique.))
  294. Jydeir: !roll 4df +3 (Physique)
  295. DiscoDude: <@Jydeir> rolled 4df for 0 [4df = [ ][+][ ][-]]; +3 for 3 [] (Physique)
  296. Theo Paracelsus: (no spaces)
  297. Theo Paracelsus: (at any rate that's a +3)
  298. Reality Glitch: ((The Brute succeeds with style. Instead of an aspect, the result is the attack roll against <@!Theo Paracelsus>.))
  299. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((... Ah, I see now; there was a parsing error with the roll. See?))
  300. Reality Glitch: ((Defend with Athletics.))
  301. Jydeir: ((With style? the got the same roll...))
  302. Theo Paracelsus: ((he doesn't succeed with style; he rolled 3))
  303. Reality Glitch: ((The result is a 0.))
  304. Theo Paracelsus: ((no it's not))
  305. Jydeir: ((I had a little error so the +3 wasn't added...))
  306. Theo Paracelsus: (look at the dice)
  307. Theo Paracelsus: ((TheDude had a hiccup because he put a space between "4dF" and "+3"))
  308. Reality Glitch: ((Ah.))
  309. Reality Glitch: ((The brute ties, placing the boost ***Tossed Aside*** on Jy.))
  310. Theo Paracelsus: "Oh my."
  311. Reality Glitch: The damsel takes her turn to scramble to her feet and try to run away.
  312. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Wilbur Steinbeck> ))
  313. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Can the other preexisting aspect be detected with Lore?)
  314. Reality Glitch: ((I'm going to say you still need Notice.))
  315. Wilbur Steinbeck: (What about Investigate?)
  316. Reality Glitch: ((The aspect is something immediately visible; Investigate would be if you were doing a body search.))
  317. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Shit. So +2 Notice versus... what?)
  318. Reality Glitch: ((Fair (+2) passive opposition, as usual.))
  319. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Mm. I think we have enough free invokes. No need to risk it.)
  320. Wilbur Steinbeck: Wilbur tries to move after the woman. “Ah- Hey, I need to ask you some questions about what’s happening here!”
  321. Reality Glitch: "Are you crazy!? I need to get out of here!!"
  322. Wilbur Steinbeck: “Why is he after you?”
  323. Reality Glitch: At the the Rakshasa turns his attention back to the woman. "You ain't getting away that easily! You still owe ~~souls~~money."
  324. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jydeir> ))
  325. Jydeir: would be rolling his eyes, if Jydeir didn't need to keep them on the fight. It would have been too easy for the brute to be candle Jack huh.
  326. Reality Glitch: ((I'm having trouble parsing that sentence, even assuming that "he" is the rakshasa.))
  327. Theo Paracelsus: ((same))
  328. Reality Glitch: ((Also: what's with the hypothetical tense?))
  329. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((He’s saying he realizes that if this guy is just here to lean on a debtor, then he’s not the guy casually eating people around these parts.))
  330. Reality Glitch: ((O.K. "keep them on the fight." is what confused me.))
  331. Jydeir: And with that thought, Jydeir would bring his fist down on him none the less. It would probably be less trouble then talking his way out anway.
  332. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((He’s referring to keeping his eyes on the fight.))
  333. Jydeir: !roll 4df+3 (fight)
  334. DiscoDude: <@Jydeir> rolled 4df+3 for 6 [4df = [+][+][+][ ]] (fight)
  335. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Hoo-wee.))
  336. Reality Glitch: (("eyes" was the crusial missing word.))
  337. Reality Glitch: ((Attack?))
  338. Jydeir: ((very))
  339. Reality Glitch: ((Alright; just remember you need to specify action+skill with each roll.))
  340. Reality Glitch: !f +2 (Defend with Athletics)
  341. DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4dF+2 for 6 [4dF = [+][+][+][+]]
  342. Jydeir: ((Fuckin hell m8))
  343. Reality Glitch: ((Jy ties; generating a boost.))
  344. Jydeir: ((I might as well burn the boost))
  345. Jydeir: Invoking **Stumbling** or whatever it was called.
  346. Reality Glitch: ((You can't use the boost you get from a roll to augment the roll giving you that boost.))
  347. Reality Glitch: ((Jy succeeds; dealing two shifts of stress.))
  348. Reality Glitch: ((The brute takes the ***Battered and Bruised*** [!] mild physical consequence.))
  349. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((What about *[Rakshasa][!!]*?)
  350. Reality Glitch: ((Was that with style?))
  351. Wilbur Steinbeck: (Yeah.)
  352. Jydeir: ((I'm not really sure how I would invoke Rakshasa?))
  353. Jack Thurible: (No? 6 vs 6, and then Invoke is a +2 )
  354. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((I mean, how would anyone? Just assume even Indian tiger demons have limits.))
  355. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeah))
  356. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Nobody ever got back to me on whether they have any quirks or weaknesses.))
  357. Theo Paracelsus: ((you can only invoke an aspect if it would make sense to, yknow))
  358. Theo Paracelsus: ((*use it as an advantage*))
  359. Theo Paracelsus: ((blame the GM 😛 ))
  360. Theo Paracelsus: ((he basically made you waste a "Create Advantage" roll))
  361. Reality Glitch: ((Anyway! <@!Jack Thurible>'s up now.))
  362. Theo Paracelsus: ((unless he has a specific idea for how you were supposed to make use of that knowledge?))
  363. Jack Thurible: !f 4 Another shot
  364. DiscoDude: <@Jack Thurible> rolled 4dF+4 for 2 [4dF = [-][ ][-][ ]]
  365. Reality Glitch: ((Action+Skill?))
  366. Jack Thurible: (Just shooting his blood as projectiles, shoot)
  367. Reality Glitch: ((Attack with Shoot?))
  368. Jack Thurible: (Yeah)
  369. Reality Glitch: !f +2 Defending with Athletics
  370. DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4dF+2 for 4 [4dF = [+][+][-][+]]
  371. Jack Thurible: (rip dice RNG for me)
  372. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((But yeah, if we can’t invoke *[Rakshasa Leg-Breaker][!!]* the way I described, and you can’t provide any strengths, weaknesses, or other quirks of the beast I identified, then it’s like the advantage doesn’t exist.))
  373. Reality Glitch: The Rakshasa grabs the projectile out of the air and now has ***Enemy Ammunition*** [*].
  374. Theo Paracelsus: ((hey wait))
  375. Theo Paracelsus: ((you never rolled against my Create Advantage))
  376. Theo Paracelsus: ((or told me what difficulty I was rolling against))
  377. Reality Glitch: ((Blinding Light?))
  378. Jack Thurible: (I mean...I can attempt one last reroll...With **Insatiable Hunger** )
  379. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeeeees?))
  380. Theo Paracelsus: ((but i don't know if i got a regular success or an SWS or what))
  381. Reality Glitch: ((I said Fair (+2) passive opposition didn't I?))
  382. Wilbur Steinbeck: (You didn’t give Jack a chance to boost, either. Also, that was an attack? Failure always results in just nothing.)
  383. Theo Paracelsus: ((not that I recall))
  384. Jack Thurible: (Yeah, I attacked, but, can I just reroll my last point?)
  385. Reality Glitch: ((It was a success with style on defense.))
  386. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Those don’t exist. That’s not a thing.))
  387. Jack Thurible: (2 vs 4)
  388. Jack Thurible: (That's not a sws)
  389. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((That too.))
  390. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jack Thurible> You can reroll, but it'll eat up your last fate point.))
  391. Jydeir: ((Defence SWS does exist))
  392. Jack Thurible: (Oh I know)
  393. Jack Thurible: !f 4 reroll ~~please~~
  394. DiscoDude: <@Jack Thurible> rolled 4dF+4 for 4 [4dF = [ ][-][+][ ]]
  395. Theo Paracelsus: ((uh, yeah it does DC))
  396. Jack Thurible: (Better than nothing)
  397. Jack Thurible: (How many boosts do we have?)
  398. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Well Jack’s point still stands; that wasn’t a SWS to begin with either way.))
  399. Reality Glitch: `When you succeed with style at a defense, it works like a normal success, but you also gain a boost as you turn the tables momentarily.`
  400. https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/four-actions
  401. Jack Thurible: (Guys, I broke even, what are the boosts on the table against this guy?)
  402. Reality Glitch: ((Yes.))
  403. Jack Thurible: (...What are the boosts)
  404. Jack Thurible: (That I can use)
  405. Reality Glitch: ((Aspects that go away after you use the free invoke.))
  406. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Well, there’s the *[Rakshasa Leg-Breaker][!!]* one we can’t use because none of us OOC actually knows what they really are, and “even they have limits” doesn’t cut it. (Still salty about that...)))
  407. Reality Glitch: ((***Blinding Light***))
  408. Reality Glitch: ((You can also use the Leg-Breaker part of the aspect to so that you're shattering his already low will to fight.))
  409. Jack Thurible: (I'll use the boosts from Blinding Light, Battered and Bruised, and Rakshasa boosts as well to just break him)
  410. Reality Glitch: ((That adds another six for a total result of Legendary (+8). The brute can eats up his mild and Severe consequences to stop it all, but will concede the conflict as a result.))
  411. Theo Paracelsus: ((i wouldn't object. might as well let us use that aspect for ***something.***))
  412. Jack Thurible: (I REROLLED and got 4, so it's would be a +10)
  413. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((But is he willing to do that? Also, holy crap, first enemy has severe consequence to burn.))
  414. Jack Thurible: (And also, I want to use all four boosts, you didn't say that Blinding Light had a ! or !!)
  415. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Even my improved “mooks with actual character” didn’t have consequences.))
  416. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeah, wtf?))
  417. Theo Paracelsus: ((why does our first baddie have a ***severe consequence***?))
  418. Theo Paracelsus: ((anyways, it's a "!"))
  419. Theo Paracelsus: ((i think))
  420. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Is this guy important and nobody told us?))
  421. Jack Thurible: (So I get a +12)
  422. Jydeir: ((usually most sane characters would back off before using it, unless they were given good reason to use it))
  423. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Maybe forget he has consequences. We want this to wrap up soon anyways. It’s getting late.))
  424. Reality Glitch: ((Reoccurring villain.))
  425. "You'll rue this day. The Tengyakuza will hear of your meddling." The Rakshasa then melds into the shadows and disappears.
  426. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((I mean, Rakshasa aren’t yokai - they’re Hindu in origin - but whatever.))
  427. Jydeir: ((huzzah, we pissed off a rent collecter.))
  428. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Also, isn’t my character already associated with the Tengyakuza?))
  429. Reality Glitch: ((Does you're character have anything to say about the rakshasa in the Tengyakuza; <@!Wilbur Steinbeck>?))
  430. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Also, did you just King Crimson that shot? No pain or knock back?))
  431. Reality Glitch: ((????))
  432. Jack Thurible: (...+12 versus a +6 Defensive)
  433. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Jack just blasted the guy, and he just shakes his fist at us and walks away.))
  434. Reality Glitch: ((This isn't a nameless N.P.C.))
  435. Jack Thurible: (So?)
  436. Jack Thurible: (He should have got wounded)
  437. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeah, we don't know what happened when Jack hit him))
  438. Jack Thurible: (And STILL! 12 vs 6 and NOTHING!?)
  439. Reality Glitch: ((He did, but I never specified the aspects because they left the fight.))
  440. Theo Paracelsus: ((uhhhh you didn't even describe the impact))
  441. Reality Glitch: ((Sorry; everything's moving so fast.))
  442. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((I think Jack might have been aiming to kill...? Not my character; just assuming based on what I know.))
  443. Jack Thurible: (Yeah, Jack was aiming to floor that man)
  444. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Is this just you saying he’s not allowed to get taken out?))
  445. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jack Thurible>; what are the projectiles like? My headcanon is that it's like firing a Halo needler.))
  446. Theo Paracelsus: ((yeah, part of this *is* on you, Jack))
  447. Theo Paracelsus: ((you didn't flavor *any* of your attacks))
  448. Theo Paracelsus: ((you just rolled))
  449. Jack Thurible: (Well because I wanted to see if anything happened)
  450. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Wilbur Steinbeck>; no; this is me not wanting the fight to drag on.))
  451. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Then describe the total TKO that should have been.))
  452. Reality Glitch: ((And me following the guideline of "supporting N.P.C.'s don't fight to the death.))
  453. Jack Thurible: ( 👍 )
  454. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((I’m pretty sure we don’t have to fight by those rules; especially not Jack.))
  455. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Admit it; the guy is toast.))
  456. Reality Glitch: (( <@!Jack Thurible> I'm worried that I'm might be misinterpreting that gesture; do you mean to say "good job" sincerely or sarcastically?))
  457. Theo Paracelsus: ((i'll admit i kinda lost the thread here))
  458. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Think he meant to respond to me ushering the TKO.))
  459. Theo Paracelsus: ((did Jack do enough damage to take him out in one shot, even with all his consequences and Stress? XD))
  460. Reality Glitch: ((No. The brute had his 1-, 3- and 4-stress boxes left.))
  461. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Which you can only spend one at a time.))
  462. Jack Thurible: Jack's mass of tendrils sprouting from his arm open widely as what seems to be...Bone. He takes aim and just as he took aim, fired it at Rakshasa.
  463. Reality Glitch: ((Only one stress box at a time.))
  464. Jack Thurible: (...Then what the fuck was the point of all this)
  465. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((Anyways, with how awkward the delivery on that warning is, combined with him not being a yokai; I’m going to call straight bullshit on him being in the Tengyakuza.))
  466. Jack Thurible: (Fight an enemy and have them just prance off)
  467. Reality Glitch: ((To get the band together and establish a reoccurring villain.))
  468. Jack Thurible: (...)
  469. Theo Paracelsus: ((remind me again how many games you've run, RG))
  470. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((And what a dry, one-dimensional villain he is.))
  471. Jack Thurible: (In what part does he correlate to this guy being a Mage Hunter)
  472. Theo Paracelsus: ((even CrowKen's infamous Pathfinder game didn't kick off like *this*))
  473. Jack Thurible: (It was actually good until he vamped up the difficulty into Dark Souls)
  474. Reality Glitch: ((In can't think fast; O.K.? I'm going into this just as blind as you are.))
  475. Jack Thurible: (Whatever, I literally just sent a bone spear flying right at him)
  476. Wilbur Steinbeck: ((It’s just bad writing to have the reoccurring villain just be the first thug you meet in an alley. I don’t see why it couldn’t have been a mook.))
  477. Jydeir: ((bad writing how? we just gave this guy a reason to be pissed.))
  478. Theo Paracelsus: ((this wasn't telegraphed to us at all))
  479. Theo Paracelsus: ((furthermore it feels deadly like we're being brushed off for GM convenience))
  480. Theo Paracelsus: (("Here's your bad guy! Whoops, he's too strong and he gets away!"))
  481. Jydeir: ((He was tough as nails... like physque 3, how did you miss that? I thought he was just being a damage sponge to let us show off but still.))
  482. Reality Glitch: ((Would you like me to rewind so you can kill him within the next round?))
  483. Theo Paracelsus: ((like i dunno, i'm just not feeling this guy as a "recurring baddie"))
  484. Theo Paracelsus: ((he's got zero dimension to him))
  485. Theo Paracelsus: ((besides, you called it yourself))
  486. Theo Paracelsus: (("Rakshasa Leg-Breaker"))
  487. Reality Glitch: ((Which I'll admit is a slip on my part.))
  488. Theo Paracelsus: ((that doesn't sound like a recurring baddie to me))
  489. Theo Paracelsus: ((that sounds like a one-off mook for us to snap in two))
  490. Jack Thurible: !end
