The ship came in low over the western hemisphere, moving with a velocity approaching light speed, powered by a technology unknown to human science. Invisible to Earth-based radar, its approach was not detected by NORAD in Colorado Springs, or by the Soviet Ablakova radar complex in Siberia, or by any other ground-based tracking stations anywhere in the world. The spacecraft accomplished its entry into Earth's at-mosphere completely undetected. Its light-bending defensive camouflage allowed it to slip past geosynchronous observation satellites and remain invisible to space telescopes.

It caused but the merest flash when it came through the atmosphere at supersonic speed, its heat deflectors briefly flaming and glowing bright red. However, this was not significant enough to be picked up and noted; even if it had been, it would have been taken as no more than a stray meteor burning up as it entered the upper layers of the atmosphere.-pg.1-2 chpt.1
