- Fate had it that the beast-god reached down into the disordered clump of bones and seized the very elephant skull in which Nkima and Ignatz shivered.
- They sprang in opposite directions, scattering. But Kong paid them little heed.
- Lifting the skull, he crushed it in one massive palm and, finding nothing of interest within, directed his attention toward other bones. A gleaming thigh bone looking fresher than the rest caught his quickening eye, its fresh aroma triggering throaty sounds of pleasure.
- Kong took it in both hands, snapped it into two. Lifting the splintered ends, he sniffed, interested. The sweet smell of marrow came to his nostrils.
- Inserting his tongue, Kong located the tasty stuff. Pleased sounds came from deep within his throat. After he had licked and sucked as much as he could, Kong threw the broken bones away, and bent down to retrieve more.
- The next specimen proved to be equally delicious as to its interior matter.
- Enjoying himself, Kong sat down on the veldt, and began picking through the close-clustered bones of the Elephant’s Graveyard, heedless of the two little monkeys that sat high in thick trees on opposite sides of the clearing.
