Gaw's trap

Now the monster’s whole focus centered on Kong. The beast was intelligent, or wily, enough to back away, cautious, looking for an opening. In that instant Ishara, looking on from a distance, realized what puzzled her about Kong’s earlier expression: he was planning! Gaw’s tail lashed furiously at her bipedal foe, stopping Kong dead in his tracks. Gaw then spun and stalked forward menacingly, step by step. Realizing he was about to be trapped by being backed up against a huge boulder, Kong took the only alternative and charged forward, grappling hand to hand with the larger beast. In a flash, Gaw’s teeth closed on his shoulder, and Kong bellowed in pain and rage.
