  1. It was a normal day.
  2. It /was/ a normal day.
  3.
  4. I woke up, as I always did, and immediately realized today was no longer a normal day. /What the.../ My head snapped around frantically as I took in the stone walls around me. Looking down at my own hands, I saw they were covered in small white scales. Reaching up to my head, I felt the cold, smooth scales on there too, and as I shifted my hand up I bumped against something hard and bony. Mumbling a curse under my breath, I jumped out of my bed, noticing how pleasant the coolness of the stone floor was on my also-scaled feet. /I need to find a mirror./
  5.
  6. I took a moment to collect myself and examine the room I was in. It was a simple rectangular room, hewn from stone, with simple furniture. The bed I had come from was pressed against one side, with a nightstand at its headboard. By my left side, at the end of the room was a window, with the white cloth curtains pulled tight, though they still let some light in. Lining the walls were bookshelves, filled with meticulously organized books. I pulled one off at random and glanced at the title. "Beginner's Guide to Magic," I read aloud, taking in the picture of a hand with bright blue flames leaping from it. Putting it back, I turned to my right, seeing the painting of what seemed to be an Arctic sky, complete with aurora borealis.
