- DiscoDude: **---BEGIN SESSION---**
- DiscoDude: **Session logging commenced**
- GM: Another truck - probably another batch of abductees - makes its way through the gate into the inner ruins. The guards stop it, and one gets up to thoroughly search the roof; a new policy after one of the blunders last night. While he did that, a furry white shape slips out from underneath the truck and into an alley.
- GM: Sabrina’s mission; to plant observational equipment in key locations inside the main keep; a bug to keep tabs on Y. Golonac’s planning, and a GPS camera to confirm the location of the portal to Hell.
- Reality Glitch: ((Does she start ***Hidden from View*** or will Sabrina need to Create an Advantage for that?))
- GM: (Let’s say the latter. She still needs to actually *get* to the keep, mind.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Sabrina will Create an Advantage with Stealth to place ***Hidden from View*** on herself.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 3 [4df = [ ][ ][ ][-]]
- GM: (Versus +0 is assumed unless I state otherwise, right? Actually, let’s make it whatever the alertness level of the area is, so +2.)
- GM: (A regular success. Describe your action.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Fair (+2) is the default passive opposition for any Create an Advantage roll.))
- Reality Glitch: Burrowing under the snow so as to not get caught moving around the surface, Sabrina has to stop occasionally to poke out a *very* small electronic parascope to make sure she's not flying to blind, so to speak. Once at the site where she had to retreat due to her partner's blunder, she checks to see if the cost is clear before scaling on of the crumbling walls to plant a surveillance camera on top of.
- GM: (Okay...? The portal and Yvonne herself are the mission, remember?)
- GM: (Those are both in the keep, supposedly.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Yes, but this is the best starting point I could think of given the limited information I've been given.))
- Reality Glitch: ((
- Reality Glitch: ))
- Reality Glitch: ((Also, a good idea to keep one's escape route covered.))
- GM: (Alright, though you’ll have to roll Stealth to make your way to the castle keep proper.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Create an Advantage with Stealth using **Eyes in the Dark** to place the aspect ***No One in Sight*** on the area immediately outside the entrance.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 3 [4df = [-][ ][ ][ ]]
- GM: (You’re not actually *at* the keep yet. This is Overcome to approach there unseen.)
- GM: (And congrats, you beat +2 again.)
- GM: (Or did you mean the entrance to the inner ruins?)
- Reality Glitch: ((I meant the entrance too the keep since I specified the "site where she had to retreat". I'll make the Overcome roll to get there now.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 3 [4df = [+][-][ ][-]]
- GM: (You were never at the keep at any point until now. The entrance to the underground portion of the smuggling operation is a different location.)
- Reality Glitch: ((That could have been clearer. I thought the keep was in hellside, and that the portal was underground.))
- GM: (No, the portal is in (or at least under) the keep, not the other way around.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Also a good thing to note: You (the G.M.) have one fate point to start this session with.))
- GM: (Let’s roll back your action to after you made your way to the separation point, though I’ll let you keep a success for whatever you do next.)
- GM: (So, what does Sabrina do, now that you know? The keep can be seen in the center of the ruins, and Sabrina needs to get there.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Overcome with Stealth to just make a much of bee line for it as possible; invoking ***Hidden from View*** if necessary.))
- GM: (Alright, you succeed as making up for those retconned successful rolls.)
- GM: Sabrina makes her way to the keep. It’s a tad taller up front, though nothing she hasn’t seen before. To its west side is a wilted garden, with balconies on the second floor overlooking the dead plants. To the east, there are a few patrols, though they seem to be guarding nothing (except for a hidden cellar entrance Sabrina doesn’t know about). To the south is the keep’s front, with a heavily guarded set of double doors.
- Reality Glitch: Sabrina make her way under one of the guards feet and uses her **Frost-Touch Technique** under the guise of normal frostbite.
- Reality Glitch: ((Attack with Burglary with Physique.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+3
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+3 for 2 [4df = [-][ ][ ][ ]]
- GM: !roll 4df
- DiscoDude: <@GM> rolled 4df for -1 [4df = [ ][-][-][+]]
- Reality Glitch: ((O.K.; what is with DiscoDude today? That's the fourth Poor (-1) roll in a row.!))
- GM: (Alright, I have no experience with this stunt. Describe what happens. (It’s a KO, BTW.))
- Reality Glitch: ((Granted, it wasn't a ntural -1, but come on.))
- Reality Glitch: ((The stunt just allows for normal attacks with Burglary, except the damage is cold-based; that's it.))
- GM: (I meant flavor-wise.)
- Reality Glitch: ((She "steals" their body heat.))
- GM: (Just describe what happens. I don’t know what this ability “looks” like in action.)
- Reality Glitch: With just the lightest lick of her paw on the guard's boot, the temperature of their foot rapidly drops to dangerous levels while keeping Sabrina from freezing, buried in the snow, using the stolen warmth.
- Reality Glitch: ((Granted, I doubt they'll really feel anythign unless they bomb their roll like I did.))
- GM: “G-gahhh!” The guard crumples over, clutching his leg.
- GM: (I *did* say it was a KO.)
- Reality Glitch: ((So the guard is taken out?))
- GM: (Yeah, though his yelling might get someone’s attention soon. Keep in mind that Sabrina doesn’t yet know that anything is here.)
- Reality Glitch: ((How many guards are there now? (Before help arrives.)))
- GM: (One.)
- “Whoa- Hey! Are you alright?”
- Reality Glitch: ((I assumed two with one distracted helping the other. Which is what you are making it out to seem like despite your claims otherwise.))
- GM: (I never said you had to deal with the one. Just that there was one.)
- Reality Glitch: ((In front of the door? With the how many coming from the cellar. (I'm not sure if that needs to be a question mark or a period.)))
- GM: (Oh, wait! You were going in through the front entrance this whole time? I thought you were going for the cellar.)
- GM: (There’s like six guys guarding the front door. Yvonne’s definition of “heavily guarded.”)
- Reality Glitch: ((Sabrina doesn't know about the cellar.))
- Reality Glitch: ((That's what you claimed.))
- GM: (Yeah, and I said 1 later because I thought you were dealing with the two to the east of the keep.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Mm. Looking back, I see I was a bit ambiguous with my description; my apologies.))
- GM: (It’s alright. Anyways, to be clear; are you going in the front, the east cellar, or the west balcony?)
- Reality Glitch: (("The front door, obviously."))
- ((Sabrina! Stop posting O.o.C.!))
- Reality Glitch: (("I make no such promises."))
- Reality Glitch: ((Anyway! Yeah; the front door.))
- GM: (Sabrina vs. Six guards? Really? XD)
- Reality Glitch: ((The guards don't know that.))
- Reality Glitch: (( 😄 ))
- GM: (Well, if you’re going through with this, then one of them just keeled over from leg-shattering frostbite.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I doubt Sabrina would care.))
- GM: (I mean, I think they know something is up. XD)
- Reality Glitch: ((Again. She don't give a !@#$.))
- GM: (Keep in mind that in the game I run, higher risk does not necessarily mean higher reward. XD)
- GM: (Okay, unpause.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Though, now that I think of it, she would have been better off going for the lone guard to lure the others away from the door.))
- Reality Glitch: ((Actually, she would be luring the lone guard away from the cellar, so she could try for that.))
- GM: “Man down!” “No visual. Ranged attack?” “Unsure. Execute spray protocol anyways, like the mistress ordered!” The remaining guards collectively pull out spray cans with flames depicted on their sides and point them where their comrade went down.
- GM: (Rolling a +6 attack, collectively. Obviously, you may use your stealth aspects to defend.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Rolling Great (+4) Stealth to Overcome their "spy check".))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 4 [4df = [+][ ][ ][-]]
- GM: (???)
- Reality Glitch: ((Using the free invocation on ***Hidden from View*** to bring that to a tie.))
- GM: (They’re spraying the general spot indiscriminately.)
- GM: !roll 4df+6
- DiscoDude: <@GM> rolled 4df+6 for 6 [4df = [ ][-][ ][+]]
- Reality Glitch: ((You specified that I use her Stealth.))
- Alyka: ((DAMN THIS ARE SOME TIGHT ROLLS))
- GM: (I meant your stealth-born aspects may apply here.)
- GM: (Or aspect, singular.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Well, I guess that's Athletics then; which puts that to a Fair (+2) result before invoking, so I won't invoke, and she'll take the "major cost" getting what she wants on a failure.))
- GM: (Wait, can you succeed at major cost on an attack/defend exchange?)
- Reality Glitch: ((It's not really an attack, though, is it? I guess it is, since A.o.E.'s are handled under the default rules.))
- GM: (Yeah, one where you take physical stress if you fail.)
- Reality Glitch: ((So Defending with Fair (+2) Athletics.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+2
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+2 for 1 [4df = [ ][ ][ ][-]]
- GM: (Mind, I rolled a 6.)
- GM: (So invoking your aspect will make you only take 3 stress.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Spending the free invoke on ***Hidden form View*** to make that a three-stress hit (or two-stress hit and a boost for them; their choice.)))
- Reality Glitch: ((Wait; does that mean they're torching their own guy as well?))
- GM: (Yeah. Yvonne’s policies are *brutal*, man. XD)
- GM: (Anyways, I’ll keep the 3 stress. Considering you only have two physical boxes...)
- Reality Glitch: ((Culling the weak I guess.))
- Reality Glitch: ((So that'll leave Sabrina with [x][ ] for physical stress and the ***Singed Fur*** mild physical consequence.))
- GM: (Ayep.)
- GM: Sabrina just barely escapes the coming fire, as the guard she left screams out in agony. Guards from all over are drawn, even if momentarily and in gaze only, to the spectacle.
- Reality Glitch: Cut to me sitting in a meeting at the Mew York embassy with Bea when I suddenly get this weird feeling; as if I just witnessed the act of cruelty myself. I shudder horror.
- Reality Glitch: ((Create an Advantage with Stealth using **Eyes in the Dark** to declare that the guard in front of the cellar door came to see what just happened.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 4 [4df = [-][+][ ][ ]]
- GM: Yeah, the area is [Momentarily Abandoned][!].
- GM: (Though you’ll have to roll Notice or Investigate for Sabrina to actually see the new entrance.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Sabrina already did that to see the guard abandon their post, so she'll go check it out while it's unguarded.))
- GM: (Wait, when did you make that roll?)
- Reality Glitch: ((Just now. That's what **Eyes in the Dark** is for.))
- GM: (I thought that was to say that the guard isn’t a problem anymore?)
- Reality Glitch: ((Create an advantage, especially with Notice or Investigate (which is replaced by Stealth, thanks to **Eyes in the Dark**), can be used to not only place and discover aspects, but also declare story details by virtue of the character making the roll having seen or otherwise gained knowledge of said detail. (In this case, the guard in front of the cellar leaving their post.) I thought it reasonable that since Sabrina saw the guard leave, that she saw where they came from and would head of there to see what they were guarding.))
- GM: (Ah. The way you worded it, it sounded like you were creating an advantage by meta-declaring that the scene was distracting enough to get that guard out of your hair (even if Sabrina didn’t know the significance of that).)
- Reality Glitch: ((That sounds like just a more succinct way of saying what I said, but you're clearly thinking something that I'm not picking up on from what you said.))
- GM: (“Guard leaves his post” and “Sabrina finds cellar” are two different resulting effects, IMO, thus needing two different actions.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I was thinking that once Sabrina is where the guard was, the cellar would be obvious; hence the need for a guard.))
- GM: (But it’s a secret entrance. Like, it’s effectively invisible. Sabrina can easily *suspect* that something is there, but she has to actually find it. Sorry for not making that clear.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I was picturing the wooden-double-door-set-at-a-45-degree-angle type of cellar.))
- GM: (Well, yeah, but it’s buried under snow.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Which would still be pretty noticeable.))
- Reality Glitch: ((A 45-degree slope just sticking out of the wall.))
- Reality Glitch: ((Even when made of snow, it's still obvious.))
- GM: (So what you’re saying is that my hidden entrance isn’t actually hidden and doesn’t need its own roll to find like I, the GM, thought it did.)
- Reality Glitch: ((You could have the door be flush with the ground.))
- GM: (Alright.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I'm just relaying my experience.))
- GM: (Thanks. Roll investigate.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Stealth via **Eyes in the Dark** to Overcome the door's innocuous location.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 5 [4df = [ ][-][+][+]]
- Reality Glitch: ((That's a success with style; granting Sabrina a boost.))
- GM: It takes a bit of searching, but Sabrina’s suspicions finally pay off. Her **Secret Little Entrance** swings open, granting her access to the cellar of the keep.
- Reality Glitch: ((I'll go with ***Out of the Limelight***.))
- GM: (Ah, right.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Now in the cellar, what can Sabrina see, hear, smell, etc.?))
- GM: The place she came out in branches down several corridors in various directions. It seems like this might also connect directly with the underground passages in the ruins. It sounds like someone is walking around down here, but she can’t tell beyond that. The whole place smells of dust, wood, wine, and bones.
- GM: What does Sabrina do now? Look for a way to the portal? Find the source of that walking before it finds her? Find a way up into the keep proper?
- Reality Glitch: Sabrina, having planned for the inside of the keep to lack good camouflage for her slips into a much more color-appropriate shinobi shozoku (with practically *cartoonish* speed 😛), and proceeds to investigate the potential spotter before they realize she's her.
- GM: (Alright, what skill would be appropriate? Like, you’re trying to find somebody, but you’re also trying to prevent them from finding you...)
- GM: (... Contest?)
- Reality Glitch: ((I think a single Overcome roll will suffice since both former options use the same skill anyway.))
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4 Stealth
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 0 [4df = [-][-][-][-]] Stealth
- GM: (Notice... or Investigate?)
- GM: (Which to roll...)
- Reality Glitch: ((Notice))
- GM: (Alright.)
- Reality Glitch: ((But only if it isn't using hearing.))
- GM: !roll 4df+1
- DiscoDude: <@GM> rolled 4df+1 for 2 [4df = [+][ ][+][-]]
- Reality Glitch: ((Remember; **4'33"** prevents her from making sounds.))
- GM: (I know. I’m thinking Sabrina’s failure would be accidentally putting her quarry behind her. XD)
- Reality Glitch: ((Well; let's establish scene aspects first. Things like lightning, debris, etc.))
- GM: (It’s [Really Dark], obviously, and this floor has a [Labyrinthine Floor Plan]. Those do it for you?)
- Reality Glitch: ((Sure. I'll use Create an Advantage *creat*ively if I want anything else.))
- Reality Glitch: ((For now, let's go with not getting what Sabrina wants for her failure.))
- GM: (Okay.)
- Reality Glitch: After a little bit of recon, Sabrina decides not to waste any more time on the matter and proceeds with her original mission to find the hellside portal.
- GM: (Alright, roll Investigate.)
- Reality Glitch: !roll 4df+4 to Overcome with Stealth via **Eyes in the Dark**
- DiscoDude: <@Reality Glitch> rolled 4df+4 for 3 [4df = [-][+][ ][-]] to Overcome with Stealth via **Eyes in the Dark**
- GM: (Vs. a flat +0. Good job.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Flat +2, but yes.))
- GM: (Right, right.)
- GM: (I subconsciously turn down the difficulty for your first scenario.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Which you can due, but you have to tell me why it's easier in each case and before I roll.))
- GM: It takes some stumbling, but Sabrina finally discovers an entrance into the tunnels beneath the ruins that seems a little more *intentional* than the others.
- GM: Like, “entrance built at the time of whatever empire this was” intentional, with the frame of the stairwell leading down having its own ornate carvings.
- Reality Glitch: ((My head canon is that the sigil for hellside portals is the same as for nightosphere portals, as seen here https://img00.deviantart.net/f654/i/2015/104/a/2/flora__an_ancient_story_ch__2_pg__1_by_reality_glitch-d8e9gxe.png ))
- GM: (There’s no sigil.)
- GM: (It’s just *there*.)
- GM: (Usually a hole in the ground.)
- Reality Glitch: ((You said ornate carvings and this is what my mind jumped to.))
- GM: (Ornate carvings aren’t necessarily magic.)
- GM: (This is just the way *to* the portal.)
- Reality Glitch: ((So the opening in the floor is just more passageway? You had me believing this *was* the portal.))
- GM: (It’s an opening in a wall leading to a stairway leading down.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I initially pictured a door at the bottom of a stair well until you mentioned a [quote]hole in the ground[/quote].))
- Reality Glitch: ((Anyway....))
- Sabrina continues down the stairs.
- GM: (I don’t remember saying that.)
- GM: (In the initial description, anyways.)
- Reality Glitch: ((Look up a few lines.))
- GM: (That was before I knew you thought this *was* the portal.)
- GM: Sabrina finds, at the bottom of the stairs, a room with a very large hole in it. It doesn’t look like a particularly special hole, but this is the portal to Hell if she’s memorized the photo right, and she certainly did. Now all she has to do is plant the GPS camera pointing at the thing, and she can cross one half of her objective list off.
- Reality Glitch: ((I forget; what's the other half?))
- Reality Glitch: <@!GM>
- GM: (Planting a bug where Yvonne might frequent.)
- Reality Glitch: ((So their bed chambers; got it.))
- GM: (Sabrina has yet to actually plant the camera, mind.)
- Reality Glitch: After checking that the G.P.S. transponder is turned on, Sabrina scales one of the room's walls and scrambles along it's ceiling so that she's directly over the portal and sticks the fingertip video-camera in the grout between the bricks so that it has a good view of the whole room (or at least the portal and everything in proximity of it), and at the room's acoustic center to maximize the microphone pickup.
- GM: As she does this, the sounds of jazz and combat starts happening down the long hall leading further into the underground ruins. (Combat which I will put an OOC wall in front of, because I’m not the sort that likes time paradoxes. :3)
- GM: (Or I guess you can investigate, but have it be all over by the time you get there.)
- Reality Glitch: ((I'm guessing this is a session with other parts of our group?))
- GM: (Yeah.)
- Reality Glitch: Sabrina thinks to herself, <Heh. Losers can't even hide properly in complete darkness. Nice going. I'll just drop out of this one.> And with that she does as she says and drops down the portal, as she plans on creating a temporary on else where in hellside to get back to base-camp.
- GM: (So, bailing on the mission to retackle the other half in another session?)
- GM: (Which is fine!)
- GM: (Because it’s getting late.)
- Reality Glitch: ((~~Actually, I'll have her use hellside to sneak into the ~~Sure; let's go with that.))
- GM: (Alright. Was that your final line?)
- Reality Glitch: After a while, a portal opens up back at the tent out of which steps Sabrina (the hare); who slips back into her refrigerated robe before briefing the rather startled Sabrina (the nekomata) about her successful half mission, her now memorized path through hellside to the keep, and the bumbling idiocy of the others getting caught in a fight in the topside tunnels under the keep.
- Reality Glitch: ((I assume Sabrina responds to that.))
- GM: Meanwhile, MAK-1 stands at the top of the stairwell, wondering if the cute rabbit just decided to leave. She wanted to say hello. She likes saying hello to people.
- GM: (And...)
- GM: !end
