- Rogue slammed her hand down on the wooden desk and shouted, "Someone here is lying, and until Urie arrives and she sorts it out, I trust nobody!"
- Trident lifted his head and asked wearily, "Can this person do what you say she can? How will she disentangle us and find the marked one?"
- Silverspot said in a soft voice, "Trident, don't talk in riddles. Urie isn't human. She's a Snake-cursed, but her father was a Natural King, so she inherited his ability. The ability of a Silver-tongue."
- Trident blinked and said, "Sorry, but you know how I am when I'm stressed. What, exactly, is the ability Silver-tongue? I've heard whispers, but never has anyone described it."
- Rogue's voice cracked as she said, "One of the most practical gifts. A Silver-tongue user's abilities are related to deception. In theory, a Snaketongue could detect a habitual liar. He could also force people to tell the truth, discern what degree of lying someone was using and which, discover whether it was on purpose or out of instinct, decide if a statement had any bias, and a lot more of that kind of stuff."
- Silverspot added, "Though, there hasn't been one in so long that many of these abilities are lost to time. Urie and her sister are something of an anomaly."
- Trident asked his wife, a quiet, thoughtful woman named Lilith, "Dearest, what do you think?"
- Lilith paused for a bit before answering him. "I still find it hard to believe that there is an entire society of these people. However, as I'm a reasonable woman, I think that this will be very helpful. Is this Urie an investigator?"
