- When a loan is described as "4.5% above the fixed deposit rate," it means that the interest rate on the loan is 4.5 percentage points higher than the interest rate you're earning on your fixed deposit (FD). For example, if your fixed deposit rate is 5%, the loan interest rate would be 9.5% (5% + 4.5%).
