- Kormak said this:
- The land-getter, who binds the mast-top straight, honours
- the provider of the deities’ fiord [the mead of poetry, whose
- provider is the poet] with a head-band. Ygg [Odin] won
- Rind by spells.
- - Prose Edda, Skaldskaparmal
- ----------
- As explained earlier in Gylfaginning and further on in Skaldskaparmal, Rind was a Aesir goddess that Odin had a child with. Apparently, some sources call her a giantess instead, but I couldn't find any that did so:
- ----------
- ‘Ali or Vali is the name of one, the son of Odin and Rind. He is
- bold in battles and a very good shot.
- - Prose Edda, Gylfaginning
- ----------
- Thor’s mother Iord and Vali’s
- mother Rind are reckoned among the Asyniur.
- - Prose Edda, Gylfaginning
- ----------
- Now shall all the Asyniur be named. Frigg and Freyia, Fulla
- and Snotra, Gerd and Gefiun, Gna, Lofn, Skadi, lord and
- Idunn, Ilm, Bil, Niorun.
- Hlin and Nanna, Hnoss, Rind and Siofn, Sol and Saga, Sigyn
- and Vor. Then there is Var, and Syn must be named, but
- Thrud and Ran reckoned next to them
- - Prose Edda, Skaldskaparmal
