  5. 21:09 <+Bjoolzern> Esther_: In the Windows search bar, enter "cmd", right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. In Command Prompt use the command "sfc /scannow".
  6. 21:10 <Esther_> Ok it said it'll take a minute
  7. 21:10 <+Bjoolzern> Esther_: You do have pending sectors on your harddrive which are sectors that have died and it was unable to reallocate them. It is a sign it has started failing. Not that many right now, but it could be dead in three years or a month. Hard to tell with storage drives. Keep frequent backups and ideally replace it
  8. 21:11 <Esther_> Bjoolzern, I have no idea what that means but it sounds bad
  9. 21:12 <+Bjoolzern> Esther_: Drives store data in sectors. When one dies it tries to move over the data. This is still bad, but it's worse if it can't move it over.
  10. 21:12 <+Bjoolzern> That has started happening to your drive
  11. 21:12 <+Bjoolzern> No way to tell when it will become unusable
  12. 21:13 <Esther_> Ok, how do I fix it
  13. 21:13 <IceMage> Had a BSoD today with VIDEO_MANAGEMENT_MEMORY_INTERNAL error...by any chance can someone tell me why it happened? I'll attach the .dmp file from Minidump folder. https://techsupport.dev0.sh/uploads/ba9568dc1e11ac81/040120-10796-01.dmp
  14. 21:13 <+Bjoolzern> There is no fix beyond replacing Esther_.
  15. 21:13 <Esther_> Oh ok
  16. 21:13 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: You only had one?
  17. 21:13 <Esther_> Bjoolzern Do you know any good ones?
  18. 21:13 <+Bjoolzern> ?req Esther_
  19. 21:13 <@TechSupportSr> (Esther_): ##techsupport does not do recommendations for hardware or software.
  20. 21:14 <Esther_> Oh
  21. 21:14 <Esther_> Ok
  22. 21:14 <+Bjoolzern> I would get an SSD. It will be a huge improvement over the HDD you have now
  23. 21:14 <+Bjoolzern> They are way faster and snappier to use
  24. 21:14 <IceMage> It's not the first time it has happened but it's probably been a week or 2 at the least since it last happened..
  25. 21:14 <Esther_> Oh ok
  26. 21:14 <Esther_> Its 15% done
  27. 21:15 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: I meant if you only had one dump file
  28. 21:15 <ocupi> IceMage, is that the only bluescreen you have experienced?
  29. 21:16 <IceMage> ocupi I think that's the only error I've seen...and hang on, I have more dumps I'll check if they're the same error
  30. 21:16 <+Bjoolzern> Just upload them
  31. 21:19 <IceMage> Here's 2 previous ones... https://techsupport.dev0.sh/uploads/94a615ae2ed491e3/022920-12015-01.dmp https://techsupport.dev0.sh/uploads/5ce9544aa3e7def2/030820-11093-01.dmp

  33. 21:19 <ocupi> IceMage, well they are all caused by watchdog.sys.
  34. 21:19 <ocupi> So may not be hardware.
  35. 21:19 <+Bjoolzern> ocupi: No
  36. 21:20 <+Bjoolzern> Are you using bluescreenview again?
  37. 21:20 <nownz> Hi everyone. My gpu keeps crashing when playing sometimes https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/fizk7y/new_graphics_keeps_crashing/
  38. 21:20 <ocupi> You got me, I was trying to get windebug working but ran into an issue
  39. 21:20 <+Bjoolzern> None of these are watchdog.sys
  40. 21:20 <Esther_> Bjoolzern, How do I know if an SSD will work on my PC?
  41. 21:20 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, remind me what do I need? Do you have a link?
  42. 21:21 <+Bjoolzern> Esther_: If you get a SATA one it will be the same thing. Same size, same connector.
  43. 21:21 <+Bjoolzern> You had a laptop right?
  44. 21:21 <Esther_> Desktop
  45. 21:21 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, I have windbg x64. That should work right?
  46. 21:21 <+Bjoolzern> Oh, then you might need a caddy as they are smaller than desktop drives. It's just a metal bracket you screw the drive into so it fits into the larget mount of desktops
  47. 21:22 <+Bjoolzern> larger*
  48. 21:22 <+Bjoolzern> ocupi: Just go on the Windows Store and get WinDbg Preview
  49. 21:22 <+Bjoolzern> It's a one click installation
  50. 21:22 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: All of these show DirectX ordering a crash due to a fault with the video memory.
  51. 21:23 <+Bjoolzern> You can try clean uninstalling the GPU driver using DDU and scanning the OS integrity using "sfc /scannow" from Command Prompt (Run as admin), but I would suspect a faulty GPU
  52. 21:23 <+Bjoolzern> ?ddu IceMage
  53. 21:23 <@TechSupportSr> (IceMage): To cleanly uninstall your display drivers, launch DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode and select the "Clean and Restart" option in the DDU window - https://goo.gl/KSoEbJ
  54. Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.2.3
  55.
  56. Here you can Download Display Driver Uninstaller, this Display Driver Uninstaller is a driver removal utility that can help you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, with...

  58. 21:24 <@TechSupportSr> (IceMage): To get into safe mode - Click Start > Settings cog > Update & Security > Recovery > Advanced start-up > Restart now
  59. 21:24 <+Bjoolzern> After that grab a fresh driver from the manufacturer's website.
  60. 21:24 <+Bjoolzern> Nvidia.com/AMD.com

  64. 21:24 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: Oh, laptop
  65. 21:25 <+Bjoolzern> Perhaps try the driver from the laptop manufacturer first. If that's stable you can try one from Nvidia/AMD's website
  66. 21:25 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: Is the model just "Alienware 14"?
  67. 21:25 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, is there an alternative to the store? I dont have a MS account.
  68. 21:26 <IceMage> I'm not sure but possibly...it's 4-5 years old at this point if that helps
  69. 21:26 <+Bjoolzern> Installing the SDK and using the debugger from there
  70. 21:26 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage: Underneath the laptop there should be a sticker with the service tag number. Enter that here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/

  72. 21:27 <+Bjoolzern> It should show you all the drivers for the machine
  73. 21:27 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, I think I have that set up. I gave it a dump file, took a while to read it but no useful info. Unds in loading user symbols, loading unloaded module list, for analysis of this file run !analyze -v
  74. 21:27 <+Bjoolzern> With laptops I generally recommend uninstalling both the Intel and dedicated GPU driver, then when reinstalling you install the Intel driver first. Some laptops get cranky if you don't
  75. 21:27 <+Bjoolzern> IceMage ^
  76. 21:28 <+Bjoolzern> ocupi: Did you click on where it says "!Analyze -v"?
  77. 21:28 <+Bjoolzern> And the MS servers are really damn slow. You need to give it time to load
  78. 21:28 <+Bjoolzern> At certain times of the day we are talking 2-4 kb/s
  79. 21:28 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, I literally just figured that one out. Now I have references to video memory management.
  80. 21:29 <+Bjoolzern> What you need to look at: MODULE_NAME, IMAGE_NAME, PROCESS_NAME, and reading the STACK_TEXT.
  81. 21:30 <ocupi> OK.
  82. 21:30 <+Bjoolzern> Saved another soul from the dreadful bluescreenview
  83. 21:31 <Andy5> For the past month my internet has gradually gotten worse until now where I can’t go 5 minutes (often even 30-60 seconds) without the internet disconnecting. It only disconnects for a few seconds but this makes video chatting and gaming impossible. This affects both WiFi and hard wired (Ethernet) devices.
  84. 21:31 <Andy5> I have no idea what else I can do. I’ve tried unplugging both the router and modem, connecting via Ethernet, port forwarding, DNS flushing, changing DNS server, and changing all coax cables and splitters. I’ve also checked all of the connections on the modem and they seem fine. This affects all devices, even those without antivirus (like a
  85. 21:31 <Andy5> Nintendo Switch). It’s a fairly new modem, we got it within the last year.
  86. 21:31 <Andy5> What is going on? Please help
  87. 21:31 <+Bjoolzern> It usually grabs MODULE_NAME and IMAGE_NAME and lists that in read, but so often it'
  88. 21:31 <+Bjoolzern> s just random
  89. 21:31 <+Bjoolzern> In red *
  90. 21:31 <ocupi> Bjoolzern, stuggling to find the things you asked me to look for, I will try anohter dump file.
  91. 21:31 <IceMage> Is there an easy way to grab the chat log here and save as .txt, so I can reference it later? If it matters, I'm viewing it via https://techsupport.dev0.sh/#chan-2
