- Dave Brewer looked up. The forest around him was still. Even the breeze stopped blowing.
- Then the ground began to shake under him. Brewer jumped to his feet. The earth continued to quake. He wondered if another, larger underground river had burst its walls and was flooding the mine.
- A few hours ago, the water level inside the pit was still far below ground level. Now fountains of water were gushing into the air. Dave Brewer knew he should get out of there, but the curiosity of a born engineer got the better of him.
- He cautiously approached the edge of the pit. A moment later, he stared out at a vast Lake that bubble Insurance not five feet below the lip of the mine.
- Suddenly, huge bubbles began to erupt from the center of the lake. More water gushed into the air. Then the whole surface began to churn.

- Dave's curse was interrupted by a huge explosion of water that burst upward from the surface and rained down all around him.
- Then, like an impossibly gigantic frog, a mammoth reptile leaped out of the turmoil and onto the shore, not fifty feet away.
