  1. This relay started off with a bang -- I composed a text that was way too long,
  2. causing Jute to drop out. The original torch then passed to Protondonor, and
  3. we agreed to reduce the original text of 19 lines to a more manageable 5
  4. lines. The original text is reproduced below:
  5.
  6. ORIG.
  7. When King Watradaiwa was still alive, that Caspam, having become viceroy of
  8. the land of Sarugada, served in that office for fourteen years.
  9. But there was treason in the heart of Caspam.
  10. When King Watradaiwa had passed on, that Caspam said to the people, "whom have
  11. the people of Sarugada promised loyalty?"
  12. "Our King has died, now I have become king in the land of Sarugada."
  13. When they heard this, the people became hostile. They began to follow Caspam,
  14. they did not stay loyal to me, they left me.

  36. --
  37.
  38. After two weeks, Protondonor got back to me. Let's see what happened:
  39.
  40. PD.
  41. King Watradaiwa still living there, Caspam became under the king in the country of Sarugada, serving that office for forty years.
  42. Yet from there disloyalty is in Caspam's heart.
  43. King Watradaiwa had left the world, there Caspam says to the people, "To who have the people of Sarugada promised loyalty?
  44. Our king died, now I become the king of the country Sarugada."
  45. Hearing that, people became hostile, they began following Caspam, they did not stay loyal to me, I left them.
  46. --
  47.
  48. Already, 14 has become 40. An understandable error, given that I don't think I
  49. specified which way around numeral compounds work. PD also didn't quite catch
  50. the meaning of "amelajeke" -- "underking", as it were.
  51. The next line, "from there", is also my fault -- the fact that "but" in Old
  52. Inggirian is preceded by a noun phrase in the ablative was not explained
  53. either. I do wash my hands of the misinterpretation of the Old Inggirian tense
  54. system though.
  55. Lines three and four are alright...
  56. But suddenly "they left me" turns into "I left them"! Miraculous, and not a
  57. wholly implausible thing to be in this text, so this is sure to be deliciously
  58. confusing.
  59.
  60. So let's see what that turns into in PD's lang.
  61.
  62. PD.
  63. 𐍃𐍄𐌾𐌰𐍃𐍄𐌺𐌴 𐍅𐌰𐍄𐍂𐌰𐌳𐌰𐌹𐍅𐌰 𐍂𐌴𐌹𐌺𐍃 𐌸𐌿𐌸 𐌹𐌻𐌹𐌸𐍃, 𐌲𐍂𐌰𐌲𐌲𐌰𐌽 𐍃𐌰𐍂𐌿𐌲𐌰𐌳𐌰𐌼 𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌰𐌹𐌸𐍃 𐍃𐍄𐌾𐌰𐍃𐍄𐌺𐌴 𐌽𐌹𐌻𐌴𐌹 𐌳𐌰𐍃𐍄 𐌾𐌰𐍂𐌰𐍄 𐌰𐌸𐌿𐍂𐌰𐌷𐍄𐍃.

  66. When King Watradaiwa still lived there, he became Sarugada to the country

  79. become-NPST.REAL.1s"
  80. King Watradaiwa departed his life, so Saspam says to the nation, "whom did the
  81. people of Sarugada promise their hearts? Our king has died, now I become King."
  82.
  83. 𐌸𐌿𐌲𐌾𐌰𐌽𐍄𐌰𐌸 𐌺𐌿𐌾𐌰𐌸 𐌸𐌿𐌼 𐌺𐌿𐌻𐌰𐌹𐌳𐌰𐌽𐍃, 𐌳𐍅𐌹𐍃𐌾𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌹𐌻𐌲𐌲𐌹𐌽𐌽 𐌼𐌴𐌽 𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌰𐌹𐌳𐌰𐌽𐍃.

  89. They were not loyal to me, and they left me.
  90.
  91. -- Well, at least that reversal unreversed itself, so he caught the mistake.
  92. The first line is bound to have some funny results though.
  93. --
  94.
  95. So now the torch passes to matt. What exciting things will he read out of PD's
  96. torch?

  98.
  99. MM.
  100. When King Watradaiwa lived there, he became known as "Sarugada" to his country at his 40th year ruling.
  101. But treason was in in Saspam's heart.
  102. King Watradaiwa departed from his life, so Saspam says to the nation,
  103. "To which person did the people give Saraguda's heart?
  104. Our king died, so I shall become king"
  105. When the people killed him, they became hostile to me.
  106. They are not loyal to me, and left me.
  107.
  108. Tragically, <kula> "die" and <kulai> "hear" look very similar, and PD has
  109. forgotten to include the latter in his vocabulary. RIP line four. The
  110. interesting omission of words in line one has also had predictable effects.
  111.
  112. So how about the conlang version?

  161. Yeah, God only knows how those Applicatives work. I think the result speaks
  162. for itself.
