- This relay started off with a bang -- I composed a text that was way too long,
- causing Jute to drop out. The original torch then passed to Protondonor, and
- we agreed to reduce the original text of 19 lines to a more manageable 5
- lines. The original text is reproduced below:
- ORIG.
- When King Watradaiwa was still alive, that Caspam, having become viceroy of
- the land of Sarugada, served in that office for fourteen years.
- But there was treason in the heart of Caspam.
- When King Watradaiwa had passed on, that Caspam said to the people, "whom have
- the people of Sarugada promised loyalty?"
- "Our King has died, now I have become king in the land of Sarugada."
- When they heard this, the people became hostile. They began to follow Caspam,
- they did not stay loyal to me, they left me.

- --
- After two weeks, Protondonor got back to me. Let's see what happened:
- PD.
- King Watradaiwa still living there, Caspam became under the king in the country of Sarugada, serving that office for forty years.
- Yet from there disloyalty is in Caspam's heart.
- King Watradaiwa had left the world, there Caspam says to the people, "To who have the people of Sarugada promised loyalty?
- Our king died, now I become the king of the country Sarugada."
- Hearing that, people became hostile, they began following Caspam, they did not stay loyal to me, I left them.
- --
- Already, 14 has become 40. An understandable error, given that I don't think I
- specified which way around numeral compounds work. PD also didn't quite catch
- the meaning of "amelajeke" -- "underking", as it were.
- The next line, "from there", is also my fault -- the fact that "but" in Old
- Inggirian is preceded by a noun phrase in the ablative was not explained
- either. I do wash my hands of the misinterpretation of the Old Inggirian tense
- system though.
- Lines three and four are alright...
- But suddenly "they left me" turns into "I left them"! Miraculous, and not a
- wholly implausible thing to be in this text, so this is sure to be deliciously
- confusing.
- So let's see what that turns into in PD's lang.
- PD.

- -- Well, at least that reversal unreversed itself, so he caught the mistake.
- The first line is bound to have some funny results though.
- --
- So now the torch passes to matt. What exciting things will he read out of PD's
- torch?
- --
- MM.
- When King Watradaiwa lived there, he became known as "Sarugada" to his country at his 40th year ruling.
- But treason was in in Saspam's heart.
- King Watradaiwa departed from his life, so Saspam says to the nation,
- "To which person did the people give Saraguda's heart?
- Our king died, so I shall become king"
- When the people killed him, they became hostile to me.
- They are not loyal to me, and left me.
- Tragically, <kula> "die" and <kulai> "hear" look very similar, and PD has
- forgotten to include the latter in his vocabulary. RIP line four. The
- interesting omission of words in line one has also had predictable effects.
- So how about the conlang version?

- That place that the chief Waterataiwa ruled in for two generations, during which time he became Sarakunda for everyone.
- Treason filled Sapsam’s heart.
- Chief Waterataiwa passed away, and Sapsam told the clan, "Who did the clan give Sarakunda’s heart to? Our chief should die, I will become them."
- They killed them, and at that moment I became hostile.
- They all left, not being loyal to me.

- Yeah, God only knows how those Applicatives work. I think the result speaks
- for itself.
