  1. He turned on his Accumulator, placed his hands on the Beacon’s metal control panel and began to suck in raw electricity through his fingers. It was fortunate that he had neglected to recharge the Accumulator since before he had made his failed attempt to find Tomik. It was unfortunate that the Beacon contained a tremendous surplus of raw power. Ral drained and drained and drained power from the Beacon, but he could sense he was barely scratching the surface.

  3. He knew that very soon he would have to release some of this energy or his Accumulator would blow, taking off the roof of the tower and killing everyone inside it—all without damaging the built-to-withstand-an-Elder-Dragon Beacon.

  7. Nevertheless, Ral kept at it, trying to drain the Beacon dry. He was making progress, but the Accumulator emitted a higher-and-higher-pitched whine. Then it started sparking excess power.

  9. It’s no good. I’ve got to release, or we’ll all be fried to a crisp.

  11. He broke contact with the control panel and stumbled toward a balcony, desperately scanning the horizon for a safe angle of release. Spotting Kefnet in the middle distance, Ral unleashed a massive lightning bolt that sheared off Kefnet’s right arm. The Ibis God didn’t seem to notice.
