PSAT discussion

[Doctor Number Four] /me couldn't figure out how to register for the PSAT and missed it

      [Doctor Number Four] I'm registering for the SAT now, but I still want to take the PSAT so I can get a scholarship maybe

      [bluebird] yeah, regular SAT means you don't get considered for National Merit. which is about scholarships
        [bluebird] generally only PSATs feed into that

    [Xyzzy] If so, you could try begging the mercy of the responsible people, or start repenting.
    [bluebird] this is a national systemic thing, so, local school administrators can't really do anything
      [bluebird] otherwise, that's a good general strategy : )

    [Doctor Number Four] I didn't have to register last year, I just figured i wouldn't have to this year

        [Xyzzy] We usually only accept highly skilled young children because adults are somewhat hard to fit through the wormhole, and interplanetary rocket launches to hitchhike on are too seldom, but I could try tugging some strings.

          [bluebird] go knock on the counselor's door before period 1, or get a note to leave class to go, i'd suggest
        [bluebird] the SATs tend to have a lot more dates, and different ones in different districts

          [bluebird] sometimes a uni or a community center will sponsor a test. so it's not always affiliated with any one school
          [bluebird] you could probably take one in texas if you really wanted to
          [Doctor Number Four] there's no "register for the psat" option on collegeboard
          [bluebird] there is an 'order now' link, at least for the educators/admin
            [Doctor Number Four] yeh, that would be for getting test materials, not registering
            [bluebird] i know, but it suggests they can still order the items

        [bluebird] certain standardized tests are supposed to be open to anyone, you just have to register ahead and tell them where you'll be taking it

      [Xyzzy] The accomodation can be a chamber just inside the outer hull, though, which most people there abandon for huddling together for warmth and not-freezing-to-death.
