  1. 2d roguelike with turn-based combat:
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5. plot:
  6. you inject nanites designed to fight a type of blood cancer, but a design flaw
  7. in those nanites result in a gray goo that ends up surviving long after,
  8. somewhat ironically becoming more of a cancer than the real thing ever was.
  9.
  10. the only cure is to find the last known universal constructor
  11. (located inside a derelict research moon base)
  12.
  13. there, you have access to medbays that can partially reverse the damage caused
  14. by the artificial illness, but it cannot be perfectly halted without missing
  15. out on essential things, like valuable loot or even encounters. this means
  16. that you need to balance treating the disease and actually progressing
  17.
  18.
  19.
  20. modular cybernetics:
  21. found equipment increases in failure chance with every use,
  22. as the parts are presumably very, very old (as in hundreds of years).
  23.
  24. there's some very good equipment, but instead of spontaneous failure,
  25. the result is a catastrophic one, with a variety of consequences.
  26.
  27. perhaps equipment needs recharging of some sort, and the failure condition
  28. is only met when recharging rather than from direct use, making it a gamble
  29. whether to continually use the same equipment after it is spent,
  30. or to try and find more, for which success isn't guaranteed.
  31.
  32. a specific class of upgrades relate to psionics, which are powerful but
  33. gradually make you go insane, while also having more acute side effects
  34.
  35. for example:
  36. synaptic shock:
  37. this induces a targetted partial seizure, which significantly lowers an
  38. enemy's chances of landing a hit, while also raising crit. strike chance
  39. time perception:
  40. gives an extra turn, but with a high chance of
  41. the enemy getting that extra turn instead
  42. discombobulate (lol):
  43. confuses the enemy, lowering evasion and chance of using stronger attacks
  44. however, this has a chance of causing the player to 'hallucinate' which
  45. could mean different things depending on how it's implemented
  46.
  47. loss of sanity can be slowed but not reversed
  48.
  49.
  50.
  51. enemies:
  52. sentient fungi
  53. mutated worms
  54. homunculi or some other weird genetics experiments
  55. security drones
  56. miscellaneous anomalies
  57. lvl 1 slimes lol
  58. accidents of psionics experiments
  59.
  60.
  61.
  62. 2 music tracks: one that plays normally, and another one
  63. that is layered on top of it during combat, kinda like ftl
  64.
  65. also, limb loss maybe?
