Raven Poems

These are names for raven: crow, Hugin, Munin, secure-mood,
early-flier, year-counter, flesh-marker. Einar Skalaglamm said
this:

The army-musterer gave mountain-haunting ravens their
fill. The raven got full on she-wolf’s prey, and spears rang.

Einar Skulason said this:

The splendid strengthener [feeder] of hostility-gulls [ravens]
does wield the splendid gleaming-sun dog [weapon]. The
troubler of Hugin’s food [raven] finds an end to his trouble
[gets fed].

And as he also said:

But the king’s heart swells, bulging with courage in battle,
where heroes sink down. Blue-black Munin drinks blood
from wounds.

As Viga-Glum said:
When we stood on the sand-bank, shielded, eager for the
din [battle] of the gore-jewel-[sword-]lady [valkyrie],
secure-mood got bloody food.
