The unity are a race of artificial intelligences native to an unknown planet located below the galactic disc. The unity were created by the original natives of that planet to carry their memories beyond the limitations of organic life, a task the unity perform to this day. Despite their synthetic nature, the unity see the world from an organic point of view and have needs and drives similar to those of organic life.

Due to the distance between their native home and the galactic disc, the unity developed along a different path from other Milky Way races. Instead of element zero and mass-effect fields, unity technology is based on nanomaterials and the manipulation of space-time manifolds.
