- Cali spotted what she'd seen before a sort of hazy blurring of the jungle, but it was next to Dash. She aimed and fired, higher than Dash's head. Her shots hit something, and the others caught on and did the same, forming a semi-circle around where Dash was, ensuring stray shots wouldn't hit the other shooters. Whatever had Dash ripped her head and spine out of her body.
- It was horrible, but that just meant they could continue to shoot with less care and more urgency. A metal stick very like the one that had killed Ira Sykes swung toward them, but they were all able to move back, and now they knew for sure where whatever was holding that stick and what was left of Dash stood.
- Someone fired Tank's weapon and Cali risked a look-Flucher had decided to get involved. The weapon did what it had done before-caused whatever made this thing invisible to fail. Only this time, the failure lasted. Sure enough, it was a monster straight out of Scary's stories-seven feet tall if it was an inch, and just as Cali had described. This one looked different from the one she'd seen,
- though, but only a little.
- The dreads coming out of its helmet weren't quite the same, the body shape while still feminine
- was a little less so than the first one. And this one was now down and, she hoped, soon to be dead. They concentrated their fire at its torso, which seemed to be the weakest part of the armor. The monster dropped what she was holding and tried to reach one gauntleted forearm with the other hand. Flucher fired Tank's weapon again, and the monster blew into bits. So did Dash's remains.-pg.231 chpt.9
