Taste: The astringent flavor of cured leather and the tang of metal washes over your tongue, with the actinic zing of various alchemical compounds making it tingle.

Feel: You feel the silky nubble of fine suede, with smoother patches where it is gilded. What metal there is exposed on her body is warm to the touch, as though it was living flesh.

Character History:
In one of the many worlds harboring a version of Equestria, there lies a version in which alchemy has risen to a science as developed, intricate and powerful as spellcraft; this means unicorns are not the only ponies who have access to such power, though the unicorns still hold the edge in having the magical acumen and finesse to handle the most delicate, dangerous or complex components and procedures.  One of the many wonders to come from this world are homunculi, simulcra of ponies which range from simple and sometimes crude puppets, only capable of following simple orders, to complex and beautiful creations which seem, or are, as intelligent as any living pony, yet are wholly subservient to their masters will.
Gilthoof is one such creation, created by a unicorn artisan, a maestro of the alchemical sciences, named Brazen Gear.  He created Gilthoof as a personal servant, and assistant in his work, any a masterful showpiece to display his prowess with the intricate clockwork mechanisms that made up the finest of alchemical devices.  He created her in his own image, a unicorn, while making her a mare whose beauty would be a rare sight if she were a living being.  He gifted her with a full mind, as intelligent as most ponies, perhaps moreso than some, but bound her utterly to his will with a topaz spire capping her horn, winding in it the enchantments that suppressed any free will that possessing a full mind may have given her.  And finally, as though to elevate her above other such creations, he added one last feature; a set of beautiful, if nonfunctional, wings; mimicking the appearance of an alicorn, that pinnacle of ponykind.
For seven long years, Gilthoof faithfully served Brazen Gear, attending to his wants and needs, assisting him in his various experiments, both alchemical and thaumaturgic in nature.  That is, until one of her master's magical experiments tore open a dimensional rift, sweeping Gilthoof off into the Nexus, shunted her through that space between worlds until she landed in Discordia.  The separation from her master's influence and the unstable energies of Discordia cause the crystal that capped Gilthoof's horn, the amplifying focus for her magical abilities, as well as the very thing that had previously kept her from being able to exercise free will, shattered violently, splintering the terminal half of her horn, and suddenly letting the homunculus think for herself for the very first time in her existence...  This has left her confused, unsure of how to act, and perhaps vulnerable to particularly charismatic and persuasive personalities...  And it is here her story in Discordia begins.

Full Description:
Gilthoof is an amazingly lifelike simalcrum of a pony given the relatively primitive materials from which she is constructed. Velvet-soft suede overlays a wooden and metallic inner construction, hiding the complicated mechanisms that fascilitate her mobility, only betrayed by the smooth, subtle rasp of metal on metal when she moves in a silent space.  This covering is a muted taupe of medium luminosity, decorated with zebra-like markings gilded over the suede.  Her muzzle is fairly delicate in appearance, and above it is are two eyes the color of a clear winter sky, glass cabochons which sparkle with life, set in white enamel.  This gentle face is framed by a mane made of fine flaxen fibre, shot through with threads of gold lamé to add a lifelike shimmer.  Her tail is likewise made of flax and lamé, though instead of being left to flow freely, it hangs in a thick, complexly-woven braid. From her forelock projects a horn made of oiled and polished walnut, though it's snapped off halfway, the end jagged as though something fixed to it had shattered.
She stands on brazen hooves, cleft and almost cervine in appearance, and give off an almost musical clinking when she walks on hard surfaces like stone.  From her withers project two intricate clockwork wings, likewise made of brass, feathered with pinions of suede stiffened with metal spokes.  They are capable of movement, able to fold and flare with as natural a movement as a pegasus's wings, though are wholly ornamental in nature, not able to lift her off of the ground in the least.  As for a cutiemark, there lies three letters in a foreign script, gold inlaid in a base of brass, set into her flanks...  Those sensitive to magic would sense a subtle pulse to these letters, as though they hold the very essence of Gilthoof's spirit.
