- It depends on your upload settings in Google Photos:
- 1. Original Quality (No Compression)
- - If you choose "Original quality," your photos and videos are uploaded in full resolution without compression.
- - These files count against your Google Drive storage quota.
- 2. Storage Saver (Previously High Quality) (Compressed)
- - If you choose "Storage saver", Google Photos compresses your images to save space.
- - Photos are resized to 16 MP (if theyβre larger), and videos are compressed to 1080p (if theyβre higher).
- - This does not count against your storage (for older accounts) but now takes up space in Google Drive for most users.
- 3. Express Quality (More Compression)
- - Available in some regions, this setting applies even more compression than Storage Saver.
- - Photos are resized to 3 MP, and videos are reduced to standard definition.
- How to Check Your Current Setting:
- 1. Open Google Photos.
- 2. Tap your profile picture (top right).
- 3. Select Photos settings > Backup & sync > Upload size.
- If you want to keep your images in full resolution without compression, make sure to select "Original quality."
