- The great anthropoid was far, far larger than any Kong depicted in the cave paintings. It towered over the wounded Deathrunner — but with the blind courage of its kind, the dinosaur did not retreat, but instead leapt over the dead body of the boy, their vicious hind claws slashing —
- With an astounding dexterity, the Kong pivoted and with a huge, open hand, smacked the carnosaur out of the air as though it were an insect. Another charged, but its leap carried it past the dodging Kong and hard into a tree. It fell to the ground, rolled, and scrambled back upright, spreading its forelegs — its wings — the feathers bristling in an intimidation display. Several others screeched piercingly as they emerged from cover, forming a phalanx that moved forward in unison. The Kong paid them no heed; instead it looked around agitatedly, sniffing the air.
