  1. WannaCry infected PCs by exploiting a vulnerability in the Windows operating system known as EternalBlue. This vulnerability allowed the ransomware to spread rapidly across networks without requiring user interaction. Once a computer was infected, WannaCry encrypted the files on the hard drive and demanded a ransom payment in Bitcoin to decrypt them.
