He was watching for something much bigger and more dangerous. The largest and most dominant apex predator on the planet: the riftwing. Human-sized and omnivorous, these aggressive winged insectoids boasted proboscises and needle claws. Impervious to the narcotic pollen of the Khatura plant, riftwings scanned for their prey on multiple visual spectrums. Their wings moved like those of a dragonfly, almost too fast to see, but the thrumming sound they made in the air offered a clear indication when one was near. Another was the call it gave when it was on the hunt, a jai-reeee that filled the rift with sound and sent all other creatures scuttling for safety.-pg.15 chpt.1
