- R-410A is a refrigerant composed of a mixture of two hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), difluoromethane (R-32) and pentafluoroethane (R-125). The production of these chemicals involves industrial-scale fluorination of hydrocarbons, typically methane or ethane, using hydrogen fluoride (HF) and a catalyst like antimony pentachloride. The resulting HFCs are then blended in a specific ratio (50/50 by weight) to form R-410A. These processes occur under highly controlled conditions to ensure the stability and purity of the refrigerant mixture.
