  1. The Burj Khalifa, the awe-inspiring skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was designed by a team led by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the architectural firm that also designed the iconic Sears Tower in Chicago. William F. Baker served as the structural engineer for this remarkable structure. Standing tall at 828 meters (2,717 feet) with a roof height of 828 meters (2,717 feet) and a spire reaching 829.8 meters (2,722 feet), the Burj Khalifa has held the title of the world's tallest building since its completion in 2009, surpassing the previous record holder, Taipei 101. Its construction began in 2004, and the primary structure is made of reinforced concrete, with some of the structural steel originating from the Palace of the Republic in East Berlin. The Burj Khalifa was inaugurated in 2010 as part of the ambitious Downtown Dubai development, symbolizing Dubai's diversification from an oil-based economy and its quest for international recognition. The building is named in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates. Truly a marvel of neo-futurist architecture, the Burj Khalifa stands as a testament to human ingenuity and engineering prowess.
