- Ford used to sell company cars (esp in the uk) with 4 models: The Fiesta, The Escort (replaced with focus), the Sierra (replaced with mondeo), and the Granada (phased out).
- So your new guys get the fiesta, others get escort, the higher sales guys get Seirras and the manager get the Granada.
- Then they phased out the top car, and it was replaced with the higher end Mondeo (titainium) spec levels.
- Of course, company snobbery means the manager doesn't want the same car as someone under him, so they started to want BMW 5 series and the like.
- Ford bought Jagaur and at some point someone had the idea to build the high end mondeo as a low end Jag, thereby upping the company snobbery a bit, and trying to bring all the sales back into their own brand, the X-type was basically the result.
