- "Now," he said.
- There was no warning. No beep of alarm-the Hunter
- had disabled those. The doors to Pen C slid open.
- Three Yellabeasts rushed out, three metric tons of hunger and brutality. Two leaped for the Hunter, which didn't run as Lewis had hoped. Instead, the Hunter drove its paired blades deep into Rho's thick chest. Lewis heard the thick breastbone
- crack. Such power. Even as the blood sprayed, Kap's jaws bit down on the Hunter's other arm. That was all Lewis had time to see, because Psi didn't attack the Hunter-the beast's thick head turned toward Lewis and Brunka.-pg.414 chpt.15
- When Omi came, the Hunter had stopped, extended its parallel blades, and waited. Omi's tongue lashed out-the Hunter severed it in mid-air, the fleshy, barbed end rolling down the hall like a half-inflated basketball. Or was it a football? Lewis could never keep the sports straight
- Omi rushed on, enraged, muscles twitching, looking to kill. The Hunter ran to meet it. Lewis could do nothing but watch as the Hunter slid at the last moment, right under the rushing Omi, and gutted the beast, from neck to hips. When Omi's blood and some lacerated organs splashed to the floor, the tall Hunter was already past, already standing.
- "Magnificent," Lewis said. He couldn't help it. The word just came out."-pg.425 chpt.15
