- We awoke inside our protective cocoon, still somewhat dizzy from our activation. According to our cocoon control shard, our intrusion into this world had succeeded, save for a slight coordinate error leading to our cocoon’s appearance slightly above this world’s atmosphere. Fortunately, our cocoon proved sturdy enough to survive our rapid decent and abrupt stop, though several of our shards were damaged and will require replacement. With any luck, these shards will not be immediately necessary for our emergence into this world.
- Shaking off our dizziness, we focused on our cocoon control shard and instructed it to spread its silk out into our impact site. From its probing threads. We discovered an unusually large amount of rubble surrounding our cocoon. Had we not fallen fast enough to blow such rubble away? Despite the risk, we decided such an anomaly required direct investigation.
- Peeling open our cocoon’s walls, the cause of the anomaly was rapidly revealed. We had crashed, not just into the ground, but through the ground, landing in some manner of cavern. Luckily, none of the rubble from the ground above us had landed on our cocoon, impeding our emergence, though what rubble was scattered around would have to be cleared away for future expansion.
- Such a task was far beyond our cocoon’s capabilities, however, so for the time being we would ignore it and focus on other features of our impact site. For example, the mosses and lichens growing on the ignored rubble. Our cocoon delicately removes samples and wrapped them up in silk for future study. What use we could find in slightly charred, somewhat smushed plant life would no doubt reveal itself in the future. Or perhaps we could find less abused samples further from our impact site.
- After a short wait, our cocoon’s probes reached their maximum extension. Aside from a single rock wall and several stone pillars, our impact site was exposed to the surroundings caverns. While not ideal, this was one more wall and several more pillars than we would have expected on the surface, so we only complained a little bit. Pulling itself on it’s silken probes, our cocoon snuggled up again the rock face, though not before informing us of the negative impact our weight had on its movements capabilities. We kindly informed it that technically it is what made us, so any weight issues it suffered were its own fault, and that perhaps it should shut up.
- Taking our advice, our cocoon _silently_ anchored itself to the rock face with several of its probes. Appreciating the quiet, we began our emergence proper, stepping out for the first time into this new world we had landed on. Though we say this, we less “stepped” into this new world and more “tripped”, planting our face firmly into the silk-covered stone. It was quite painful, a fact our cocoon’s laughter did little to ease. We threatened to swap shards with it, if it felt it could do better, which quickly silenced its latest bout of insulting noise.
- Looking around at our impact site with our own eyes, we soon noticed a problem. Aside from a beam of light descending through the hole our landing punched in the cavern ceiling, it was quite dark underground. As we had intended to intrude on the considerably brighter surface, we had not taken this level of darkness into account when designing our main body. Sighing, we re-entered our cocoon for a quick touch up.
