  1. You can't actually find a good translation of this quote anywhere for some reason, so I had to make my own. The original Greek and Latin versions were pulled from dfhg-project.org, an online version of Karl Mueller's Fragmenta Historicorum Graecorum. The F. H. G. compiles the quotations of Greek poets and authors that were preserved in other sources. The following quote is a scholion (basically an explanatory footnote) from an ancient annotated version of Euripides's play Alcestis. The scholion itself was quoting a now lost work of the 5th century BC mythographer Pherecydes of Athens.

  4. Original Greek:

  7. Latin translation:

  10. English translation:
  11. Pherecydes does not say that the Cyclopes were killed by Apollo, but their sons, writing as follows: "Apollo came to Admetus to serve him for a year at the command of Zeus, because he had killed the sons of Brontes, Steropes, and Argus. Apollo killed them in anger towards Zeus because he had struck down Asclepius, his son, in Pythia with lightning. For he restored the dead to life with his skill."

  14. The Latin translation only covers the Pherecydes quote itself, not the sentence introducing it. That's why it's shorter. I made the English translation with a combination of translation software and my own Latin knowledge.
